I'm having a really had time trying to decide where to go for a quick service meal for supper at Hollywood Studios. What's everyone's favorite?

It's our arrival day & my Mom's first visit so it will be her first Disney meal which makes it all the harder to pick one.

Thanks for the help!

Umm, honestly I wouldn't have the first meal be at the Studios. Especially not quick service, it is pretty lacking in that park. Can you do a table service, or hop to Epcot?

I feel the same way but, since it's our arrival day, I don't want to have to worry about racing to an adr. We won't be able to get to a park until supper time & I don't really want to waste park time hoping just for a meal. I had hoped to do Rivers of Light on our arrival day but my hopes of that are slim. It's Halloween Party night at the Magic Kingdom so I thought it would be nice to kick things off with Fantasmic. But, with that comes the problem of a place to eat. Why does DHS have to have such poor choices. Maybe the new pizza place will be open by the end of October. A girl can hope, right.

We just get the quick service meal across from the entrance to fantasmic! And take it inside and I eat it while waiting for the show. It's nothing to write home about though

Fairfax Faire is where we typically eat at DHS. DH and I usually share a rib and chicken meal, but only because we have a TS as another meal and we couldn't eat a whole QS meal. Problem is if it's hot the seating is outside.

If you are looking for a/c there's ABC commissary, which has a Disney cupcake as a dessert option. And typical QS food.

There really isn't much that screams Disney as far as QS in DHS. Nor is any of the food anything special.

Is going to Disney Springs an option? I ask this because depending on the time you would get into the parks it might be a waste of an admission ticket in your arrival day.

Also, again depending on time, you might be able to pick up a decent QS supper at your resort.

I thought I read PizzeRizzo is going to open in November.

How about eating at your resort, and then having a snack at the Studios?

I like going to the Boardwalk from the Studios and eating sandwiches and dessert there.

While its not a QS - I suggest Sci-Fi, my mom absolutely loved it.... She said that it brought back so many memories of her childhood, when going to the drive inn movies was a big thing. My grandfather would take my mom and her sister to go see the "scary movies"... and talked about when her and my Dad would take us when we were little kids. For your mom 1st meal I would go with this, but its just a suggestion. Also the price point is not really that much more than a QS.

You could grab a QS at your resort or at one of the resorts on the boardwalk, the food offering will be so much better. Then grab some pop corn and enjoy the show.

There is a pizza window over on the boardwalk that might work out to.

How big is your party/what are the ages? Is it possible to eat at one of the lounges (outside 50s Prime Time or Brown Derby)?

Thanks to everyone for all of your suggestions. We are eating at Sci-Fi later in the week & with it being a travel day, I don't want the hassle of having an ADR in case things don't go according to plan. I thought about park hoping or going to a resort but it's just so time consuming. I really don't want to waste what little time we have. Maybe if we eat a later lunch we can just grab a snack before heading to Fantasmic. It just DH, DM, DS3 & I.

I was going to suggest the same thing. Since it appears you are staying at Bay Lake, you would be much better served grabbing something at Contempo Cafe then heading to the studios vice dealing with the poor choices at MGM.

Oh your moms gonna really love it at Sci-Fi - As far as QS in DHS.. Our if we have to grab something I would suggest Starring Rolls Café - They have a soup and salad combo, Turkey and Ham Sandwiches, not sure if they still offer it but they had a cheese plate offering that was pretty tasty.

The premade sandwiches at Starring Rolls are disgusting to me. They just sit there until someone buys them. ABC Commissary is probably the worst QS in any park. I'd go to Backlot Express. It's absolutely nothing special but the food is standard QS food and they have AC.

I read these boards a lot and there are always folks that are in the same predicament as yours. We have been there many times too. I wonder if Disney is aware of this. We keep hoping that there will be a change as the new parts of the park open. Our touring plans revolve around getting a meal and being in a certain place forFantasmic or a Fast pass and it is always a problem. Frankly, we usually end up at EPCOT.

If you don't mind sitting at a bar, I would recommend Tune-In Lounge at 50s Prime Time Cafe. You don't need an ADR and the food is somewhat better than the QS options. I guess your 3 year old might be an issue. Anyway, just a thought.

I'm always baffled by peoples hatred of QS at HS. We've eaten QS at that park many times and while we're not "Foodies" we've never been disappointed. Granted, none of us are picky and we have a very "go with the flow" mentality, but it would take a truly bad meal to make me rant about the quality the way I've seen some people do over the years. It's better than typical fast food and it's on par with virtually ever other park QS around the property. I recommend Starring Rolls - I told a friend of mine to go there two years ago and she's still talking about how much she loved the sandwich and has it on her list for her next trip. We've eaten at ABC Commissary multiple times and it's always been good - nothing spectacular about the menu, but on par with something like Cosmic Rays. Backlot Express is the one we tend to avoid, but not because of the food - because I would rather not sit in the heat and it always seems even hotter in that area than in any other place in the park.

If you want to experience truly bad quick service, head over to Universal. I've had better lunches at my sons' school.

Backlot Express has indoor seating with AC. Are you thinking of Studio Catering Company? That closed.

There are quite a few choices right there on Sunset Blvd on your way to Fantasmic! We don't usually do QS at HS, but the rib dinner I had a Fairfax Fare was good! I do love ribs though, so maybe I was just enjoying my favorite food. DD found a chicken Caesar salad right in that same area, too, that she enjoyed. I just saw today on a newsletter that sometime soon they will be serving 1lb baked potatoes with various toppings - now that sounds great! I say don't stress or go out of your way to get a bite to eat before Fantasmic! Enjoy!! :flower1:
