OK,

Inspired by the "best song" threads. What's your favorite "One Hit Wonder".

Two come to mind for me.

"All Right Now" by a band called Free and
"Drift Away" by Doby Gray (not the new version....)

Mickey by Toni Basil. I know it's a corny song, but I always enjoy hearing it:D

That Thing You Do

( I know it wasn't "really" a song by a band, but hey, I LOVE that movie!)

Modern English

"I'll Stop the World and Melt with You"

867-5309 (Jenny) By Tommy Tutone

I was also rather fond of True by Spandau Ballet

I'm with Sideshow Bob on this - I'll Stop the World and Melt with You - love that song!

"Undercover Angel" Alan O'Day
"Afternoon Delight" Starland Vocal Band

I got a few . . .

"When A Man Loves A Woman" -- Percy Sledge

"Stand By Me" -- Ben E. King

Starland Vocal Band actually recorded a fairly decent album that song was on. Some covers of John Denver tunes and such. Then they disapeared. Probably a good thing that.

Here's DH's list:

"Louie, Louie" -- The Kingsmen

"Wipe Out" -- The Surf-aris

"The Twist" -- Chubby Checker

"What I Like About You" -- ?

and he agrees with Galahad that the greatest one-hit-wonder was "Drift Away" by Dobie Gray . . .

If you are allowed to pick TWO favorites, another one that I liked was "Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go" by Soft Cell.

Being a DJ, I have a ton of them that I play from time to time. Some from the 60's:

Who Put the Bomp (In The Bomp, Bomp, Bomp) by Barry Mann
Pretty Little Angel Eyes by Curtis Lee
Girl From Ipanema by Astrid Gilberto and Stan Getz
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly
Do You Love Me by The Contours
In The Year 2525 by Zager and Evans

A few from the 70's:

House Of The Rising Sun by Frijid Pink
In The Summertime by Mungo Jerry
I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (in Perfect Harmony) by the Hillside Singers
Hocus Pocus by Focus
Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas

I can go on and on but probably one of my all-time favorites has to be:

Chick a Boom by Daddy Dewdrop

Time to turn on the stereo.

Adam aka Big Dude

Anyone remember "Too Shy Shy" by Kajagoogoo?!::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

This was the first song I thought of when I read the thread title! I'm not a huge fan of 80s music but this has got to be one of the best songs ever written (OK...one of the best songs by an 80s band with the word "Spandau" in their name ;) ).

I'm no good at these threads where you have to name your favorite anything because I can never limit it to just one!

So, here are a few others from the 80s:

"She Blinded Me With Science" - Thomas Dolby
"Tainted Love" - Soft Cell
"Come On Eileen" - Dexy's Midnight Runners
"99 Luftballoons (99 Red Balloons)" - Nena
"What I Am" - Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians
"One Night In Bangkok" - Murray Head (from the musical "Chess")

And from the 70s:
"I Love the Nightlife" - Alicia Bridges
"House Of The Rising Sun" - Frijid Pink

And from the 90s:

"Groove Is In The Heart" - Deee-Lite
"Breakfast At Tiffany's" - Deep Blue Something

Just to name a few... :teeth:
