I'm running out of things to plan until the Entertainment schedule comes out for September, so I'm checking out menus. We want to save money on meals by bringing our own food for lunches, etc. But we NEVER eat in park when we've gone and I'd like to try some of the yummy foods. So....

1) What are your favorite meals (prefer counter service with 4 kids)?

2) What "Kids Meals" in the park are yummy and enough food for an adult? (My mom and I aren't huge eaters)

I have never tried the kids meals so can't comment on that, but my favorite counter service is the Golden Horseshoe which I think also serves the Stage door cafe. It is fish and chips, chicken strips, or mozzerrella sticks. Stage Door used to do burgers but hasn't for a few years now. I also enjoy the Royal Street Verandah for the clam chowder bowl...usually get this when we have a spot saved for Fantasmic. In the past we have enjoyed the burgers at Village Haus but haven't been there in quite some time and have heard they have gone downhill.

Hope you have a great time! I really look forward to the food there...it is one of my favorite things about the park! We are going in September too but looks like the week after you! Have a great time!

I love the penne pasta with marinara kid's meal at Plaza Inn. It might not be quite half of the full portion, but since it includes half a breadstick (full portion gives you one so if you're sharing with two people it's the same breadstick amount), plus carrots or apple slices (we've actually gotten both before) AND a little beverage, it's a great deal.

Things in breadbowls are great to share. If you want to eat at least some of the bread, that is...if you're just going to toss the bread, that's a good portion of the filling part of the meal.

One of our favorite counter service places is Rancho Del Zocalo, although I normally get the Hacienda Salad and recent reports are saying the salad is much smaller than it used to be. We also love the chicken fusilli pasta at Pizza Port and the chicken caesar salad at Farmers Market in DCA.

The sourdough soup bowls in DCA are really good...the name of the place is escaping me.

That salad sounded sooooo good!

For counter service we absolutelty loved Taste Pilots Grill. They have ribs, burgers, etc. and a nice toppings bar for your burgers. Also, DD2 is a big fan of cheeseburgers and Taste Pilots is one of the only CS places serving a kids cheeseburger meal. So, we will definitely go back there this trip. Have a great time planning.

Rancho del Zacholo has a great plate that has 2 enchiladas, strip steak, beans, rice and 2 tortillas for $12. If you cut up the steak, it makes a yummy fajita with some of the beans on it, you each get an enchilada and some rice as well. They also have a refillable drink area or you can get ice and bring in your own drink.

I agree about the Taste Pilots Grill - good BBQ chicken sandwiches and soft criss-cut fries, as well as tasty onion rings!:thumbsup2

Also, don't miss out on an opportunity to eat at River Belle Terrace for breakfast - a counter service place that serves the famous Mickey Mouse pancakes.

Bengal BBQ serves nice chicken, beef and veggie skewers for a dose of protein that is not a full meal size.

People seem to like the chowders and soups at the Pacific Wharf Cafe in DCA.

Try a yummy, warm cinnamon roll at the Blue Ribbon Bakery in DL.

A couple of table services that won't break the bank (like the character meals will) are: Carnation Cafe in DL for any meal (for breakfast they serve full-size Mickey Mouse waffles) and Wine Country Trattoria in DCA. I think those two are cheaper than the hotel restaurants or the restaurants in DTD.

We love eating the Corn Dogs on Main Street..YUMMY! that is one of the greats that is a must do for our family. Another great place is the Plaza at the end of Main Street next to Tomorrow Land. They have great fried chicken and the portions are huge. You can easily share a meal, I always do with our DS11. Some people dont know but you can make changes to the meal. We always get all white, (2 chicken breasts) eliminate the green beans and ask for double mashed with an extra plate...tons of food! The kds meal is also a drumstick and mashed potatoes with grapes plus drink incuded. In addition to the chicken, they serve pot roast (delicious), pasta either marinara or cream sauce with chicken and an array of salads and super desserts...

Pizza Port also has pizza slices that are huge...easily split and you can also get a large pizza, not listed but available, and feeds our family of 8...ITS HUGE plus less than $30....
Good luck!

my 4 kids ALWAYS choose Taste Pilot's Grill. DH and I like the food there, too, so it ends up being basically the only place we ever eat at while at DLR (we only do 1 meal inside the parks per day)

we started going there in 2002, and back then they had popcorn chicken with smiley face potato cakes in the kid's meals, and that's why my kids always wanted to go there (we had AP's and were there a couple times a week). they don't do the smiley face potatos anymore, now it's just criscut fries. i think my kids still choose to go there simply for nostalgic reasons, lol. although DD17 does say that their BBQ sauce is her favorite on earth.

we've done several other places, but TPG is always what everyone wants these days. oh, and just for the record, Pizza Port SUCKS, just my opinion. i wouldn't waste your money there. it's way overpriced and the pizza is pathetic.

Taste Pilots is GREAT!!!! Love the food there, love the condiment bar, love the BBQ sauce! :) Good food, decent prices, can't be beat. :)

We do like Pizza Port, DD9 and I get a salad and the chicken fusili pasta and share, it's enough for us both and we rarely finish it all.

We like Rancho a lot, very sharable there as well.
