Looking for replace our old dilapidated American Tourister, looking to go hardsided. We travel often. Looking for opinions on whether shelling out for more expensive brands is worth it?

I like the IT suitcases. They are pretty cheap at TJ Maxx. They are super lightweight. When airliners started enforcing a 40 or 50 pound limit for suitcases I discovered that our good quality suitcase was 13 pounds (empty)! The IT suitcases run 4-8 pounds, depending on size.

Do you check your bags or not?

If I checked bags, I might pay for a better bag... Tumi or Away... but I carry on, so my luggage doesn't get as beaten up. I buy my luggage at TJ Maxx. I have a hard sided bag that was around $50 and I have a Vera Bradley weekender bag that has a d-pocket that slides over the handle of the carry on bag. It is a spinner wheeled bag.

I have gone abroad for 2 weeks with just these bags.

I'm a big fan of the Samsonite Hyperspin luggage at Kohl's. Fantastic for business travel and long weekends.

I use Genius Pack. I travel often and these things are durable.

I really like my Mickey and Minnie luggage - same brand (American Tourister) as at the Disney Store, but wildly cheaper on Amazon. I know they are soft-sided and you want hard-sided, but definitely consider that hard-sided luggage cannot be packed as full, so you might get a bag thinking it’s as big as your old ones, but it really won’t carry everything you’re used to carrying.

OH! I also use packing cubes. AWESOME for organization, especially with kids.

We have 4 bags from FUL that are Mickey and Minnie with a Spaceship Earth kind of design it is a very subtle, yet bold design. They are very well constructed. If you look for deals online or Kohl's you can get some nice deals. We got a 3-piece set for $200 a couple years ago.

Our TJMaxx have great selections. Great prices too!

I have very old hardside American Tourister Spinner pieces I am still using after 20 years. So I suggest AT hardside spinners.

Our 39 year old Delsey hardsided suitcases just keep on going. But as we have gotten older, we have switched to a small softsided carryon for shorter trips.

I love my Eagle Creek bags. The ones I have are hybrid with a hard side back and soft front with pockets. They aren’t inexpensive but they are holding up well. I also have soft sided bags from SwissGear that I bought at Target and they are holding up well, too.
I don’t like hard sided luggage because I like to have the front pockets for storage. I have one hard side bag that I never use just because it has no external pockets.
