Favorite item at Jiko--Besides the Filet!

I am going to Jiko for the second time this weekend. Last time we went, my bf and I both had the filet. (Which we did love) but I would like to try something else. He will definitely get the filet.

We also love the ostrich appetizer, which we will get again if they still have, while I am mainly looking for a different main course, I would welcome other thoughts on different appetizers, drinks, desserts, etc!

the filet, ad you know, rocks.... the curry shrimp is good too, if you like spicy. I was very disappointed in the chicken. It did nothing for me. I now stick to appetizers for my dinner.

I absolutely second the short ribs, though I've never ordered them myself. I also love the Maize Crusted Halibut (or whatever fish they are serving). The tomato butter is yum.

For appetizers, you can never go wrong with the flatbread, but I also like whatever shredded meat wrapped in pastry they are serving (it looks like it is something different than the last time I ate there in Oct).

My favorite dessert is also gone - chocolate lava cake with lavender ice cream But the apple tarte is great too, and they make all of their ice cream on site. ENJOY!!

My DH loved the seared maize cake entree, which is the vegetarian option. I don't like corn but he was in heaven.

We just got home from our trip to AKL and we loved Jiko! It was so good, we went twice. The first night we went as part of the Waynama (sp??, it is the sunset cruise) safari so we were lucky enough to try almost everything on the menu. We loved the food so much, that we went back the next night to order the BBQ chicken flatbread and Crispy Savanna Rolls!

Appetizer: any of the flatbreads
Entree: Maize-Crusted Halibut
Dessert: Pistachio Creme Brulee (or Lavender Ice Cream)

Just thinking about this meal makes me a very happy camper.

That curry shrimp is to die for!!! I've eaten at Jiko 3 times now, and just can't bring myself to order a different entree!!! I just get dh to order something different, so I can at least taste it!

I don't know, since I get something different everytime I go, but the first time I ever ate there a few years ago, I had a lamb shank served with couscous that was pretty brilliant.

I got the fillet and my hubby got the short ribs and I liked his way better than mine. Next time it's the short ribs for me too. Hubby also loved the short ribs.
