this thought was triggered by the favorite baby Items, I was just thinking what family tradition do you have that you want to pass on to your kids?

1) when me and my sister were getting ready for bed my Dad read us Batman
comic books!!(yes I know not the normal little girl bed time story but we loved it)

2) when it came down to leaving the house we had two vehicles and my dad always made everything kidish he renamed the cars (again batman inspired) the dark van was the batmobile and the red car was robin's ride.

3)at halloween we picked pumpkins according to size, dad had the biggest then mom then karen then me with the baby pumpkin.

4)and I know this one is very spoiled of me but I am going to share it anyway, we were always at DISNEY :yay: for christmas week with new years thrown in there too and I could look forward to it being just me and my mom in the pool on new years eve when we were too "tired" to stay in the parks.

so what are yours ????

Well, my Dad would always read us a bedtime story too. The one thing that sticks out in my mind about this is the time I had to go into the hospital (I was about 4) and I was so upset because we were reading Winne the Pooh and my sister would get to hear the story and I wouldn't! So I made my Dad promise to come in each night and read the same amount to me so we were "even" when I got home.

Also, my Dad, my sister and I would make "slush guggy". What is slush guggy you ask? Well, it's a little bit of this and a little bit of that (i.e. left overs) and we'd put them all in a pot and mix them up and we'd have dinner. My mother would only let us do this every once in a while...I'm guessing that's because it was actually really disgusting, but we loved it and thought it was so much fun to cook. I've definitely grown out of that!

Playing putt putt golf on our summer vacations to Ocean City MD

Taking the train to Philadelphia to see the lights at Wannamakers and then having a visit with santa and lunch at Bains Deli.

Picking out a real christmas tree (DH is allergic)

My grandmother babysitting all the kids on good Friday and dying Easter eggs together.

Getting a white or pink chocolate baby doll in my Easter Basket from Govodas's Choclate Store. They were awesome life size real looking chocolate babies. I used to play with mine til it melted and then freeze it. By June it was a brown/grey lump of mess that had to be thrown away.

Food plays a big role in our family traditions. Ham on Easter and New Years, Turkey on Thanksgiving, Stuffed Shells on Christmas, Homemade soft pretzels on Halloween and every kid has their own traditional birthday meal.

Also going out to find our Christmas tree. Reading the Christmas story from the Bible and Twas the Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve. The kids also each get to open one present on Christmas Eve.

Dyeing Easter eggs together. Our Halloween candy scavenger hunt. Watching Pirates (Black Pearl) the night before every Disney trip.

It's funny - every now and then I'll mention something seemingly obscure (to me) and the kids will say "Mom - we can't stop doing ___________! It's a TRADITION!!!"

Every year on Christmas Eve the family gets together to enjoy pork soup. It's very simple made from pork roast, onions, water, vinegar and served with warm hard rolls. This has been a tradition my dad started may years ago and even after his passing we still enjoy it. In fact my kids have come to expect it. It is the only time of the year that we eat this particular dish.

all of these sound great and definitely bring some memories up.

I'll have to try the pork soup it sounds really good!!

But I don't think I'll be trying "slush guggy"......don't think I could stomach it

I definitely LOVE put put at OC MD......I plan on doing this for my birthday TOMORROW!!!
