Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good cookbook. I am looking to make economical meals that I could make in batches and freeze to have on hand. I love to cook, but can't seem to think of anything new and interesting to make. In general, my family isn't too picky. I am probably the pickiest - don't like fish or seafood. Other than that, we will eat a variety of things. I have 2 kiddos and a hubby. I am watching Food Network as I type this and just can't get into what Giada is doing. I really need some inspiration from somewhere!

Thanks,

Your hungry Dis Friend :)

the I Hate to Cook cookbook from the 60s has just been reissued. I got it from the library but hate to cook enough that I haven't read it yet, lol.

I'm interested to see what responses you get.

Honestly, I get most of my recipes from epicurious.com cookinglight.com and foodnetwork.com. I like having reviews for the recipes. It's good to see what worked for others, how they tweaked things, etc.

There are a gazillion available for free online. Why pay for a book?

myrecipes.com has a great filter set up where it is easy to search for quick/freezable meals (and other options.) The recipes on that site are from several magazines - Southern Living, Cooking Light, Oxmoor House, etc.

Thanks for the replies so far. I guess I am not just looking for cookbooks, the online suggestions are great. I am going to check them out now!

I like allrecipes.com

As far as cookbooks go - the best ones I have are from church fundraisers, pto's etc. - one where many people contribute their favorite recipes.

We like anything from Cooks Country, they are the comfort food section of America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Illustrated. Great, foolproof recipes.

onceamonthmon.com is a web site set up to help you make a bunch of meals each month for the freezer. She sets it up so that you do an 8 hour assembly day and end up with breakfasts, luches and dinners. It includes a shopping list for all of the meals and detailed direction of the quickest way to do it all.
I have been taking her recipes and putting them into my personal cookbook at food.com. Once you add recipes to your virtual menu, you can print out a shopping list there too!
All of it is free!

Go online to Recipes.com, Food Network, Cooking Lights, etc. They all have recipes, and best of all it's all free.

I love my More with Less cookbook and some of my old church cookbooks. They have recipes that use common ingredients, but are good.

I try to share recipes that are like that on my site. Easy, quick, slow cooker, freezer meals etc.

I have Cooks Country and it my favorite. Every recipe has come out awesome and I come out looking like a great cook.

I agree with the Cooks Illustrated/America's test kitchen recommendations. They have a ton of books and test and retest each recipe a ton of times until it is just right - they are all foolproof. I have way more than I need to, but use each and every one of them. I think they have a "make ahead one" as well - here is a link for a sale they have online right now:

hope this works...

I love Taste of Home magazine. It's fun to get a new magazine and see what new recipes I can try over the new month until a new issue comes. Have found many wonderful recipes in the magazines that I use and use.

Well, other than the obvious (my family cookbook with handwritten recipes from mom, grandmothers, aunts. etc. ) you cannot go wrong with:

Cooks' Illustrated
Julia Child
Alton Brown

I also really LOVE my Disney cookbooks!

Online I like Allrecipes.com. Easy to use website and tons of recipes and feedback from people who have tried alot of the recipes. Along with their changes and tips for making things work better.

My all-time favorite will always be the Better Homes & Gardens red plaid cookbook. You find them in Wal-mart from time to time and it's probably available either in bookstores or through Amazon. Not only is it well organized but it has tons of tips, substitutions and loads of info.

Happy Cooking!
