DH is out playing roadie tonight. One of the bands he worked for years ago is doing a reunion show and they asked him to come and LD. He's going to donate his pay to the charity the concert is a benefit for, he wanted to do it for the fun of it!

They were just a regional band he was with before he began doing national tours. One of the guys in the band went on to write a bunch of hit songs for various country artists, another does the Dueling Piano's thing, another is an accountant, and I'm not sure about the other two. DH does this reunion event every year, but other than that, he hasn't worked in the industry for ten years or so.

I have two favs: Heart in April of this year @ Universal and DMB in 2001 back in Virginia. Both were awesome!

He worked for SK and then BML. Would have been 81 or so through 97.

He worked on a bunch of big production shows like the MTV Music Awards with Allen Branton, and was the LD for Nancy Kerrigan and Friends.

Me:

I worked for a bunch of different companies doing one offs and short legs, and spent a few years f/t with Winterland, and yet more time with a tour consulting company. I also did a stint with FMI for a couple years. My years were 82-present with some gaps. The biggest gap was 99-02 where I pretty much stayed out of the industry entirely. In 2002 I began writing for a few national rags, and in 2003 I began doing some consulting work for a management company. In 2005 I joined the staff with a growing music magazine in Central FL as a writer and photographer. (Reviewing Queensryche tonight!)

I loved Toby Keith. He's red Smokin Hot!
Brooks and Dunn Awesome show.
Kenny Chesney he's got tons of energy!

I saw them at Providence College back in 86 or so. With The Outfield, I think. It was very fun.

All of you must have crossed paths. I know he used and knew people with BML. SK? I don't recognize it (but I stink with Abbrev.), FMI sounds familiar, but am not sure of what type of company it is. They might know each other from Allmans, does your husband know Burt?

My husband worked for one of the two biggest concert promoters in the NY/NJ area. He toured with GD, but when not out with them did all the other stuff that got booked big and small.

He left in 1993 to work for a company on an international level (Mexico and South America). The goal was to help develop a system to attract and bring more international acts, as well as the larger acts (Stones, Floyd etc.) down to those markets. They also did some things on a national level including a few Metallica tours.

He left that company in June and took a position with a company (one of the biggest) in their NY/NJ market.

So the long and short of it, if you guys never met I'm sure you know a lot of the same people.

Very difficult to name an absolute favourite concert but I will go for Bruce Springsteen - Tunnel of Love tour @ Wembley Stadium. Rubbish venue but the show was great.

does your husband know Burt?

We both do. Earl (Errrrrrrrrlllllll) the LD and Pete from Botherhood, too. (Not a typo LOL!)

And Jim P. (the tour accountant) who I think went on to work for REM, but I'm not sure what he's up to now, haven't talked to him in a few years or more.

As far as the GD, ask him if he remembers Bob K. from Iowa the merch guy in the mid-late 80's--very tall--6'6 or so and skinny as a rail with piercing blue eyes and an infectious smile. I heard he got busted for drugs and ended up in jail. Too bad, he had a heart of gold.

Bob K. doesn't ring a bell with him. Was he a regular or just someone that was in and out every now and then, or in certain cities? He knew the GD guy that was the head of merchandising that was always out with them. He was very sweet too, always went out of his way to see if I needed anything. Too bad you don't have a picture, names sometimes escape him, but faces he rarely forgets.

He didn't know SK, but then said, "do you mean S&K?". He said that was a company upstate they used for sound and lights. As far as BML goes, he had just gotten off the phone with them before he called me lol.

He asked when you worked at Winterland and what the was the name of the tour consulting company. Looking over your list of bands (I didn't read them to him though) I can say that he work quite a few times with Pink Floyd in the states and Mexico. I don't remember if they played SA for them though.
What was your roll with them? Did you do a tour or just one offs?

Get a pair of custom made musicians ear plugs--any audiologist can make them for you for $75. You can choose how many Db you want them to cut--mine are 27 I think. They attenuate sound over all frequencies so it's not the muffled sound of foamies, but a true, crystal clear sound at a lower volume.

Yeah, I have thought about doing that, but to be honest, we don't go to as many shows any more. How sad! We used to see whoever was around, but now, especially with DH's work schedule, we just don't have time. We refuse to buy tickets from a resale agency, but only want to have the best seats, so we only go to shows that we are in the fan club for and that still requires hours of waiting around so...
