What's your favorite Christmas song and why?

Mine is "I'll Be Home For Christmas" - years of being active duty made this a big hit for me. One year I surprised my parents by actually showing up Christmas Eve! They were speechless!!!

What's yours? And why?

Rae

I love Silent Night. I also really love it on Christmas Eve in church all the lights are turned off and the congregation sings it by candlelight.

Mine is The Christmas Song. When I picture the scene in my head, it just feels like Christmas.

I am partial to Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days of auld lang syne?
And days of auld lang syne, my dear,
And days of auld lang syne.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days of auld lang syne?

Silver Bells, reminds me of my grandparents whom I lived with and raised me. They have both passed away, but when I hear this song it reminds me of them and the wonderful Christmas's we had together.

I would have to say

Judy Garlands rendition of Have your self a merry little Christmas.

Or Bing Crosby...White Christmas which he sings in the wonderful movie.........HOLIDAY INN!

I also love the Messiah sung by a fantastic choir....

Holycow (who couldn't pick just one!)

Mine is One Little Christmas Tree by Stevie Wonder.......

I tried to find the lyrics but couldn't but it's a reminder to me to appreciate even the smallest of things. Sort of stop and take time to smell the roses at such a busy time of the year type feeling.

It's hard to pick just one, but I think it would be "Carol of the Bells" because I just like the tune and it reminds me of my goofy Dad trying to sing it when he didn't really know the words - it was always:

"One turtle dove, two turtle doves, three turtle doves, four turtle doves..." (try singing that to the tune of Carol of the Bells) ;)

I like Carol of the Bells (especially Trans Siberian Orchestra's version) and O Holy Night too (especially when sung by Josh Grobin - sends chills up my spine).

Also Sleigh Ride (especially when done by the Boston Pops) and probably my all time favorite is Do you hear what I hear (no preference as to who performs it!)

I don't have a favorite song, but I do have a favorite christmas album that I MUST play when decorating the tree: John Denver and the Muppets. It just reminds me of being a kid and the Christmas magic is brought back for me. Never was a John Denver fan, but as a kid I was obessesed with the Muppets. My DH thinks I'm a "freak"! LOL
It's not Christmas until I hear Miss Piggy crank out "five Golden Rings, badum bump bump"

I also like Burl Ives Christmas stuff.

When my sons were young, we always watched "Christmas Eve on Sesame Street." My favorite song was "Keep Christmas with you"...all through the year. When Christmas is over, keep some Christmas cheer"----I really like that sentiment.

O Holy Night, and Josh Groban just makes it better !

O Holy Night... there is no greater reminder of the meaning of the season.

Had the privilege of hearing Josh Groban LIVE when he sang with Sarah Brightman on her tour a few years ago ----- he is fabulous!!

Holly Jolly Christmas - (my late FIL looked exactly like Burl Ives!)now it isn't Christmas until I see the video "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer".

So many songs, so many memories - so much love -

Rae

gmta, I was gonna start this thread yesterday. ;)

Mine is Away in a Manger. Don't know why exactly except I remember it clearly from Sunday School programs as a kid. I got to hear it tonight at DD's Christmas program, her class didn't sing it but, the 1st graders did and, it was soo nice.

I had that Muppets and John Denver Christmas album too- I loved it! It's probably still at my parent's house.

My favorite Christmas song is probably O Holy Night- beautiful and it makes me cry.

My favorite holiday albums now are Harry Connick Jr's--- I have both of them and they have been playing non stop in my car since Dec 1. :D
