Haven't had a chance to actually try it out yet, but we're planning on trying out Anastasia State Park for a night in November. Close to St. Augustine, close to the ocean, close to I-95. Sites seem pretty roomy. Google says two hours to the Fort.

We normally do three nights in a coastal state park and five nights at the Fort, and Anastasia is our normal go-to. The sites are nice and big (well, we tent camp, but we have a HUGE tent with a two extra-large vestibules, along with a large dining shelter, and we always have plenty of space - something we can't always say about sites we've had at FW) and there is a nice nature walk through the campground. The beach is very nice and my kids LOVE the walkway across the dunes to get there - there is always lots of wildlife to spot! We've done three three-night stints there, and we keep MEANING to go into St Augustine, but have never made it out of the park.
We're trying out St Andrews State Park on the Gulf Coast this year, instead of Anastasia, but this makes for a 6 hour trip to Fort Wilderness. But, everyone wanted a change, and we're excited about the idea of having sheltered bay for kayaking and snorkeling on one side of the park, and Gulf beach on the other.
