Since I haven't stayed at all Disney resorts, I thought it would be cool to start a thread to discuss those rarely spoke about perks of the resorts. You know, those less advertised things that make you love a particular resort.

I'll start.....

I absolutely love the walkway to the MK from CR. However, it's not the MK why I love it. It's to the other resort buses. Take a few short steps from CR and you are at the MK bus stops for all the WDW resorts. I love this when I do an evening dinner. I can go to my dinner resort from whatever park I'm at and then ride their MK bus back. From there, I am able to walk back to CR without having to wait for another bus, monroail, etc. It's incredibly convenient. One of the reasons why CR is my fave WDW resort.

Keep it going.........

Here's one I noticed about POFQ my last trip-- It rocks for the buses because it is the first stop ion the way out and the first stop on the way back. So you always get a seat in the morning, and you're the first off at night. I think this is still true.

I loved the walkway along the river that connects POR and POFQ, it is great for jogging, early morning walks or just watching the birds. Plus it is a convienent way to check out either property, I was staying at POR during Spring break the week POFQ reopened, I got a great chance to see everything so fresh and new.

DH & I liked being able to use our YC refillable mugs at the Crew's Cup Lounge for our evening coffee.

although we've never stayed at AKL, i must make a trip there every time we're in wdw. not for the view, not for boma, not for jiko. but for MARA. yup, the darn food court. as someone who doesn't really like Boma, i can still get the little chocolately morsels of heaven called zebra domes, chocolate crunches, and paw print brownies at Mara. plus you get a nice walk past the pool on your way there.

There's no better place to relax, read a book, and sip on a coffee, than in one of the overstuffed chairs on the 3rd or 4th floor of the Wilderness Lodge, overlooking the lobby.

That is a great tip, Contempgal! Thanks for posting it. We'll have to do that on our trip next month.

Hi Contempgal - Great tip. I would never have thought of it. I always like having a car because we enjoy eating at the resorts and it is a pain to get from one resort to another via bus. But, if you stay at the CR and do as you suggest, it would be painless. Thanks :D

Awesome tips and ideas. Another reason I love these boards.

Please tell me, when walking to MK from CR where do you start? At the CR lobby?

We are staying at Ft.W and taking a boat to CR for dinner at Chef Mickeys. Then heading to MK for fireworks. Last summer we waited quite awhile to smoosh onto the monorail to get to MK. A short walk would be perfect.

Thanks in advance.

momxx5, yes you do start at the lobby. The easiest way is to go out the side entrance to the bus stop and you will see the walkway and signs from there. It's a short walk and has the walkway around the world stones that you can read most of the way. Very nice.

Glad this post is giving some ideas! Lets get some more!

I really like the concept of this thread, as so often there are interesting/unique things to do that are overlooked.

Nice aspect of The Contemporary...

One late evening I approached Chef Mickey and then made a right, hopped on the monorail, had dinner at The Polynesian, strolled around the grounds then visited The Grand Floridian (could have had dessert there but I felt underdressed). As it was dark for most of the little excursion the lights and atmosphere seemed even more enchanting. My daughter loved the spontaneous change in plans and it was fun to see some of the other resorts.

Next year I'd like to spend a little more time resort hopping as it is a great way to preview them as well...

I love the walk around the grounds at PORS. I love to start in the AB section and wind my way around to the mansions. Each of the buildings is slightly different in design and grounds. You start off looking at the Bayou section lodges and then realize as you start approaching the mansions exactly how the buildings change (the design team that created that architecture did a really wonderful job) from one to another until they reach the mansion homes. They are all very unique. I also love to admire the landscaping as well. There are so many people who love to sit in the gardens and read or look around. Everyday I saw so many people just walking around enjoying everything. There is just something special about it. Also like stated by another poster, the walk over to FQ is also very nice with a different perspective of the FQ.

As I live in N.O./South, I never really thought I would like to stay in PO but decided to last year and really thought they did a great job. It sort of made me reappreciate what I drive past everyday as I see both those type of Mansion homes and the FQ but at least Disney cleaned them up. It is always the littliest things that fascinate me.

These tips are awesome.

I'll add another along the lines of my original post. Wonderful aspects of GF and Poly are the boats that take guests to MK. It's a beautiful relaxing ride. CR also has boats that go to WL but I haven't rode those just yet. Will on my next trip.

Also, CR has a outside veranda on the tower third floor (monorail, shop and restaurant level) with seating that is wonderful to view the fireworks when you don't have a MK room view or are visiting for the restaurants (other than CG which of course has an amazing firworks view).

Great thread! We have a whole day planned to resort hop and Contemporary guests are so lucky with the bus accessibility!

What I love about the YC is that you so close, you can walk to Epcot - very quickly!! Also, the boat ride to MGM is very beautiful! And the sand bottom pool is such an interesting experience!

I have a few...

I love to stay on the first floor of the north garden wing looking at the lake. The sun comes up over the water and starting my day with a beautiful sunrise is perfect!

Another is Bob Jackson at Port Orleans lounge. He is so entertaining, I can't say enough! We have stayed at POR just to see him.

Another is the geyser at WL. I just love to watch it when it erupts.

I just thought of another. Watching the EWP from the lounge on the 4th floor at the CR! Another favorite freebie~

Watching EWP from a swing on the Poly beach is very romantic too!

:earsgirl:

I get a glass of South African wine at Victoria Falls and take a seat in one of the hand-carved chairs in front of the beautiful fire in the lobby. It's a great way to unwind and reflect on your day.
