Any suggestions for this song??

Background info: I don't want a cheesy song. Me and my father aren't that type of person. We're not terribly close, in fact we didn't really get along until I moved out to go to college!! HAHA!:rotfl2:

I want a unique fun song. Any suggestions??:confused3

I actually didn't pick my dance yet!!! hmm I'm going to think of a song for you.

I am not close with my dad, in fact haven't seen him in a few years but i have chosen "Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman.

That's a sweet song!! I like it a lot!

I think though that it may be too sweet for us though, but I think I want to play it for the other father and daughters to dance too.

OK, I totally wanted to dance to "She's No Lady, She's My Wife" by Lyle Lovett, even though the lyrics aren't really for a father and daughter:

She hates my mama
She hates my daddy too
She loves to tell me
She hates the things I do
She loves to lie beside me
Almost every night
She's no lady she's my wife

The preacher asked her
And she said I do
The preacher asked me
And she said yes he does too
And the preacher said
I pronounce you 99 to life
Son she's no lady she's your wife

And I can't remember
How I met her
Seems like she's always just been hanging here off my right arm
And I can't remember
How I ever
Thought that I just couldn't live without a woman's charm

And even though
She loves the smell of French perfume
And even though
She walks around in high-heel shoes
All I know
Is I'm the one who pays her price
Man she's no lady she's my wife

Haha! :rotfl: I LOVE it!!

Me and my step dad are very distant and we don't have those "lovey" feelings either so I picked "I hope you dance" by Leanne Womack. It's not super sappy and I will be starting it with my dad for 1 minute and then my groom and his mom will join us. HTH! I know how hard it is.

The father/daughter song we are going to dance to (and it will be the same time and same song as the mother/son dance) is Tarzan's 'You'll Be in my Heart.' :) I love that song. I also love the song Butterfly Kisses...not sure who the artist is for that. Best of luck! There are some other great suggestions here also.

My dad and I aren't into the mushy songs. I originally wanted Old Time of Rock in Roll by Bob Segar, but decided that might be a little to crazy. I ended up using You Got A Friend In Me from Toy Story.

Im not going to do this.... but I know a friend of mine used I hope you dance, not sre who its by..and she and her father werent close either...

I'm having the same problem. Not very close with my dad either and all the typical songs are too lovey/sweet. I was thinking maybe "When you wish upon a star" or "A dream is a wish your heart makes.' Nice songs but not so father/daughter lovey. I like the idea of "You'll be in my heart" I"m going to go look up the lyrics now.

Oooh, I just thought of one. How about "Circle of Life?" Kind of appropriate.

I LOVE Circle of Life but cannot listen to it without crying - as long as I have plenty of tissues I might consider this. Actually this might work - my mom passed away 2.5 years ago and my DF mom passed away more then 20 years ago. Maybe we would start with me and my dad - then add my DF and his sister and then have family member join in and friends. This would make a whole Circle of Life.

Is there an artist or band that you and your dad both love? Maybe you could find a song that way. For example, my parents were both HUGE Jimmy Buffet fans and they practically raised me on his music. So I'm thinking of finding one of his songs for my dad and I to dance to when I get married because it would just have more personal meaning for the two of us. We're not into the typical father/daughter songs, either.

I'll let you know if any songs come to my mind. Good luck with your search, and let us know what song you end up choosing! :goodvibes

My Dad and I danced to Somewhere Out There from An American Tale. Sweet, but not too sappy? I also like Time After Time by Cindy Lauper.

OMG, I love Jimmy Buffett and my dad and I go to his concerts together everytime he's down here! You might have just given me a great idea... i think I might change my song now. :rotfl: i think you guys are right... it doesn't have to have anything about father/daughters in it for it to mean something! Our favorite song to sing together is "A Pirate looks at 40"...

I asked my dad for his pick, and he almost immediately said Israel Kamakawiwo Ole's Somewhere Over the Rainbow. It's a nice blend of What a Wonderful World (one of his favorite songs) and Over the Rainbow (one of mine).

Ooooo oooooo ohoohohoo
Ooooo ohooohoo oooohoo
Ooooo ohoohooo oohoooo
Oohooo oohoooho ooooho
Ooooo oooooo oooooo
Ooooo oooooo oooooo

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Once in a lullaby ii ii iii
Somewhere over the rainbow
Blue birds fly
And the dreams that you dreamed of
Dreams really do come true ooh ooooh
Someday I'll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me ee ee eeh
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops thats where you'll find me oh
Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
And the dream that you dare to,why, oh why can't I? i iiii

Well I see trees of green and
Red roses too,
I'll watch them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

Well I see skies of blue and I see clouds of white
And the brightness of day
I like the dark and I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people passing by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying, I...I love you
I hear babies cry and I watch them grow,
They'll learn much more
Than we'll know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world (w)oohoorld

Someday I'll wish upon a star,
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top that's where you'll find me
Oh, Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
And the dream that you dare to, why, oh why can't I? I hiii ?

Ooooo oooooo oooooo
Ooooo oooooo oooooo
Ooooo oooooo oooooo
Ooooo oooooo oooooo
Ooooo oooooo oooooo
Ooooo oooooo oooooo

I love that song and love his version but I am not sure how easy it would be to dance to. I definately want this included somewhere in our wedding but not sure if I want to use it for the father/daughter dance or somewhere else.

We're both into oldies rock so I was thinking something fun like that. No slow songs!
