My 10 yr old brother is in boy scouts, and this Sunday is their banquet. For the banquet they get awarded their badges and get judged on a father son cake bake. The cake has to be completely edible, even the decorations. We know that only my dad and brother can bake this but we are all trying to figure out what kind of cake and what kind of decorations would be good for it. Any idea's?

ok..my mom has made just about all of my super duper awesome birthday cakes..so get ready for some ramdon ideas
FlipFlops-use nutter butters and friut roll ups..what ever color you would like, put the nutter butter on the fruit roll up and cut out the shape secure with icing and use pulled apart twizzlers pull n peels for straps.
Candy stores are the best ...like really big ones that only sell candy....we have found candy rock and legos..be creative with your candy

you want a pool or a lake?
"make a two layer cake and cut the top layer apx. 3/4 of an inch deep put icing on the cut out part doesn't have to be pretty and poured in blue jello, that was setting (about the consistency of runny pudding)and then let set completely. Put crushed graham crackers around the cake for sand"

Do you want wings of any sort? Cut a gummy lifesaver in half() and make )( that sort of shape

pretzels work too...
btw..is it judged on taste or apperance or both?

have they ever worked with fondant? it takes some patience, but it can be soooooo cool.....but it is hard to work with

gumdrop flowers- . Flatten gumdrops with rolling pin on surface or sheet of waxed paper sprinkled with sugar. Roll until very thin (about 1/16-inch thick), turning frequently to coat with sugar.

2. Hold flattened gumdrops at center; overlap edges slightly to give petal effect, pressing piece together at base to resemble flower. For open blossom, bend gumdrop petals outward from center. Insert small piece of gumdrop in centers with wooden pick to attach flowers to cake if necessary.

texture the frosting, if there is any....use forks, anything that will look cool if you want.

crushed crackers make sand or dirt

coconut with food coloring=endless possibilitys

michaels (like the craft store) has some other things you could try...

Is there a main theme?

KITTY LITTER CAKE

my bro's did that and it goes over well (their little boys, who knows why but it's "funny")

it is...all you do is put grape nuts in a NEW CLEAN kitty litter box, but in some shaped tootsie rolls and a drop of water here or there and use a NEW CLEAN kittly litter scoop to serve....or if you don't wanna buy the stupp a slotted spoon and container will work too

Or you could make a camp site cake.
-Use graham crackers in an upside down "v" shape to look like a tent.
-an upside down ice cream cone covered with green icing for a tree.
-blue frosting for a lake/river. Or you could the thing with jello and put Swedish Fish candies in it
-And green icing for grass
