FastPasses: Will We Have to Pay for Them?

I read in the 2006 edition of the Official Guide to WDW for Kids that next year, people *might* have to pay for FastPass. Anyone know if there's any truth behind this?

Haven't heard anything about paying for them. I heard a rumor a while back that they might make some kind of special fast pass for resort guests so they get earlier times or other benefits.

Anyone else know anything about this?

Nope, nothing has been announced about any such changes yet.

I don't see Disney charging for them. It is a nice perk to get people to come here rather than the other parks in the area.

I wonder if they are playing around with the idea of another level or premium ticket that would give out fast passes at will. I think I would pay twice the price to get on a ride without waiting. Would anyone else?

I could be totally wrong but I don't see Disney changing the FastPass system at all. They were the creators of the entire idea and it works extremely well. Charging for it would be a nightmare, I would think. Doing something for only resort guests would also be a problem. It's hard enough to have a stand by line and a FastPass line and at two attractions, a third one for single riders. They'd have to redo the queues yet again to add a third or fourth line for resort guests or those who have paid money.

Just my opinion.

I would pay extra for the perk of not having to wait. Disney may be throwing around the idea that Universal incorporates with their fastpasses.

What I was thinking was that the premium ticket, when inserted into the Fastpass machine would print one that was good immediately. They would use same line so no constuction necessary, just new software for the Fastpass machines.

I think it would be more likely that they'll add a kiosk in the lobby of the Disney resorts, limited to Disney resort guests ("insert your room key in slot 2" if your admission isn't on your room key) or perhaps limited to folks with specific premium packages, that allows guests to get FastPasses right there, before they leave for the parks, and allows them to specify the precise time (subject to remaining availability, of course), and without the one-per-two-hour limitation. Just my guess.

I would not, but I live close and go every week.

I know it's apples to oranges (only 2 parks & 3 resorts), but I REALLY & TOTALLY loved the FOTL perk when staying at Universal. If there was some way Disney could work out something similar, it would be fantastic.
