The issue was that having people in the FP lines like normal would cause the standby lines to extend even further out into walkways than they already were.
If they were filling the FP line like they use to, we wouldn't see lines snaking through the park. They are because everyone riding is in the standby line. While lines might be long, parks might feel crowded, there are certainly not more people going this year than in previous years- it just feels like more because they have nothing to do but be in line or be standing around. There is no reason for the lines to be extending into walkways based on the number of guests in the parks. They're extending because there's only one line to be in. FP lines ate up a lot of people because those lines moved much faster.
