Fastpass Question...

Please tell me if there is any truth to this. One of my best friends neighbor's goes to WDW twice a year. She says certain WDW resorts have automatic fastpasses. So you never have to wait in line for the rides, you basically just show them your room key or whatever and you just walk on. Kind of like what Universal has for those who are staying on-site. This will be #5 trip to WDW and have never been off site so have I been missing out on something?? Sounds way to good to be true. :earseek:

Although we haven't gone yet, I learned about the fast pass on the planning kit from DW. The FP is located at the major rides- it is a machine that spits out a ticket that prints the time to return. The DVD says to make sure that you get a ticket from the machine for each person who is going to ride.

I've never heard of this either. Nor have I ever seen someone show their room key to get into the Fastpass line. This would kind of defeat the purpose of the whole Fastpass system. Each ride only gives out so many Fastpasses per time interval. If people could freely and frequently get on via the Fastpass lane, that would make the standby lines much longer and unpredictable.

I think she must be confusing Universal's Front of the Line Access with WDW. The fast pass system hasn't changed since I was there in October...or we would have heard about it I'm sure!

Your friend is definitely talking about Universal as Disney makes you get the fastpass. We go every year and it's always been that way.

Well, while we are on this subject...

I booked my Disney trip at the beginning of this month for May, through AAA. I booked everything through them - air, hotel, tickets.

I was originally going to stay for 5 nights, but I had the agent get me numbers for 6 nights. She got back to me with a total for 6 nights, and it sounded good, so I went with the 6 nights.

Then she called me back and said the person she spoke to at Disney to get the quote made a mistake on the 6 night amount, and it was not correct.

Now, here's the strange thing...

When she called me back, she said that because of the confusion with the amounts, the person she spoke to at Disney was going to "give" me "Fastpass" to make up for the problems. (I've only been to Disney once before, about 10 years ago and there was no Fastpass, but I had read about it and that didn't make sense to me - how could they "give" me Fastpass when making a reservation.)

The AAA agent was not sure either, she said there were some long strings of numbers the Disney agent gave to her that were being attached to my reserveration for this "Fastpass" thing.

Anyone have any idea what this would be all about? It's not a big deal to me, so I just ignored it, but I have been curious as to what they "gave" me.

PHOTOpass?

Photopass is an card used to keep track of your digital professional photos from the parks. I don't think there is a charge for it, but I suggested that as a possibility becasue it showed up as an option on my package when I booked. Hopefully, you will really get a FastPass for something. I have received a fastpass on a card before when a ride broke down - this is better than a machine issued FP because you can only have one machine issued FP at a time. Good Luck!

Yes it is possible to "give you fastpass" and if you can imagine it, it probably consists of what you imagined and is done the way you imagined. It is one of the tools Disney uses that can be thought of as sprinkling extra pixie dust to make hurt go away. But it happens rarely and on a case by case basis. I have even heard of a bus driver tearing them off of a pad and handing them to guests after a particularly bad ride, much like city bus drivers handing out emergency transfers. Again rarely.

Yes, I've gotten those types of fastpasses and what they are are fastpasses that have a time on them but not a date so you can use them any day you want.

I know a couple managers at WDW that have blank FPs for various attractions at the parks they work at.

Good thing about these, no date, no time, no corresponding park ticket. Therefore, they do not interfere with any Fast Passes you get yourself. They do not expire, and they can be used at any time during the day.

We got blank Fastpasses at Animal Kingdom one day. One member of our party is a Fl resident and she was having trouble getting her play 4 days pass voucher exchanged for a "real" ticket, and it took Guest Services so long they gave all 4 of us 2 FPs each!! They came in handy, because it was almost 10 a.m. by the time we were through with Guest Services!

So yes, I can see how they might put a note on your reservation that would entitle you to some blank FPs when you arrive. That's a good perk to have!

I just returned today, we stayed onsite at Universal for 2 days and onsite at Disney for 5 days, you show the room key at Universal if you stay onsite but NOT at Disney! I did see people putting in their room keys to obtain a Fastpass not sure if this is what she meant.

They used their room keys in the FP machines at WDW because their MYW passes were on their room keys. If their park tickets were not on the key, they would not work.
