Fastpass+ Question

I have a question about Fastpass+. We plan on reserving them in advance, but we also plan on not having a plan at all. They will be there if we happen to want to use them, but most likely our plans will change.

My question is regarding a potential fastpass scenario:

We select 3 fastpass plus reservations at Hollywood Studios:

-Toy Story from group A
-Star Tours from group B
-Tower of Terror from group B

We get to HS, and use our fastpass for Toy Story, but not the other two.

You can get a forth fastpass for anything that's left once you use all three of your original allotted faspasses.

Also, it's possible that Fantastic is available as a 4th fastpass the day of.

With two pending fast passes, we can't "select a 4th" but since we already used Toy Story we wouldn't be able to change one of them to Fantastic because it's also a group A fastpass.

Is that correct? Is it ever possible for a Group A fastpass to be available as a 4th, but not be able to grab it because you used your group A and not your other two group B fastpasses?

With only group B fastpasses left, and group A fastpasses available as a 4th fastpass, how do you release your group B choices so you can select group A? Or, day of, can you change group B fast passes to group A?

Let me know if I'm not making sense.

You cannot get a 4th (of any sort) until you have used your first 3, or their times have expired.

You can get on MDE and try to move your times up on your other FPs once you have used the prior one so you will be done sooner.

Example: FP scheduled at 9, 10, and 11. Use the one at 9. At 9:15, try to reschedule one of the others for 9:30. Use that one. Try to reschedule the last one for 9:45. Use it and be done by 10.

Of course, that requires a lot of things to go right. And it requires you to use FPs perhaps at a time of day that didn't really require them, thereby diminishing their value to you.

So, if we want toy story and fantasmic, we should book our B tiers super early and miss them, hit toy story in the afternoon and then have a shot at a Fantasmic fastpass?

Depending on the time of year of your visit, you can stop by a kiosk on your way to Fantasmic and obtain a FP for it as your 4th of the day. That's plenty of time to allow your 2 B FPs to expire.

And, if there are two Fantasmics scheduled for that evening, you won't need a FP for the 2nd show - also dependent on time of year. During Christmas > New Year's Day, Fantasmic can be standing room only for all 3 shows every night.

Just spent a week 6/20-6/27... We booked most of our FPs for afternoon and evening (except AK) and got there very early each morning. It worked out very well; better than I thought. We never needed to get additional FPs for the day.

The parks did not seem crowded ... not sure if it was the new FP system or everyone coming the July 4th week.
