When you get a fast pass does it have to be used by a specific time that day? I though the time on it was a window when you could return not a deadline that you had to make.

It is a small window. I think it is an hour (I could be wrong), but there is a start & end time on the ticket

Don't worry about missing a FP end-time.

Fast Passes do have a window that does "expire" but they will be honored at ANY TIME later in that same day. (If the FP expires at 2pm, you can still use it at, say, 6:45pm).
This is one of those "rules" that is true 99% of the time.
The only time there MIGHT be a problem is on the very "hottest" and busiest attractions like Soarin' or EE.

But, I just used "expired" FP this last January, two different times, for Soarin'... the CM checked the time and waved us through.

It seems to depend on the castmember's mood. We've had them let us in 2 hours after or any time during the day but the rule of thumb is usually 1 hour from the time on your pass. Although that time is more of a suggested time...not set in stone.
