I'm sure this has all been brought up on other posts but I thought I'd share some of what the cast member checking us in at The Contemporary on Monday shared with us about the new RFID keys. The keys are a new color and you can see where the rfid chip is (a small square in the magnetic stripe right behind the castle). When we checked in we had the old style locks but tonight they were swapped for the new rfid locks. It was explained that this is all part of Fastpass plus system and your fast passes will be assigned to your kttw card and not your admission ticket. So once all the locks in all the resorts are switched I would assume it moves forward. He also explained that if you do a split stay at multiple resorts you will only need to check in once for your entire stay. The same goes for land and sea trips on the Dream and Fantasy. One check in for both the ship and the resort. When we visited in December we tested what I assumed was the new fastpass system at Test Track (rfid cards he'll up to a reader that turned green when they were valid) and he confirmed that is in fact the fastpass plus reader.

So not a lot of ground breaking stuff here but I figured some might find it interesting.

~Wow! Thanks for the update, it's so exciting to see all of this come together. I just love the idea of one check-in for split stays, that's very nice! :goodvibes

Me too! How awesome would that be?!?!? :goodvibes

Thanks OP for the tidbits!

So does this mean FP+..or FP at all will be limited to onsite guests?
~I seriously doubt it, lol. When the RFID turnstiles were tested back in November at Epcot, Disney had the CM's put RFID "stickers" on all of the tickets including AP's. :goodvibes

Thank you so much for the tidbits! I'm anxious to see if there will be a new fastpass system implemented before our next trip in June 2013

The split stay thing is interesting. I wonder how they will make that work in terms of knowing when you have left your first room and want to get into your second room. I wonder if it will be a strict checkout/checkin time in terms of getting into your second room. Plus, how do you know your second stay's room number if you don't check in??? Can't wait to find out how this is going to work, and I don't even do split stays. :rotfl:

As far as knowing the room number when we checked in this week our room wasn't ready so we went to MK and we got a text message when our room was ready with the room number. We then went straight to the room without having to go back to the desk. I would guess it would be the same. And checkout is 11:00am so I would guess the same would hold true for switching resorts.

I think you already know that we don't know, but it is a very common belief. Stay tuned.

Don't forget the wristband option, which could indicate it will be offered for sale to off-site guests...

True, but still unattractive to locals or semi-locals like me.

As others have stated, no one knows but Disney right now. However, my opinion is that it will be for resort guests only. And I believe, like some others, that the reducing of EMH is likely somehow related to the eventual rollout of FP+.

While that is exciting (our outraging) news I'm not buying anything from some random CM at any resort at this point. Till I hear it from a bus drive it ain't a fact. :cool2:

I don't know much about this whole fastpass plus thing, but from what I've read ~ am I the only one who has no interest in it? Now that fastpass times are enforced, it was hard enough making it back to rides in the right window of time (although very do-able, for us anyway). With three young children, I can't imagine being able to use fastpass plus without being totally stressed out!

Whether you like it or not seems to depend most on how much of a planner you are.

It sounds like they are going to the system Universal uses: all on-site guests automatically get fast passes for all rides, while other guests have to pay a daily fee.

Not plausible. There are far, far more WDW resort guests than UO resort guests for this to work.

This is not necessarily indicative of what the final outcome may be. During a test phase it makes sense for them to get as many participants as they can to get better data.
