Fastpass needs an Update bad.

I generally like it, although much of the benefit gets lost if you park hop since the time window for the morning's fp may not have come yet when you switch parks and the new park may have the fp's gone for the ride you want. I wish there were a good solution for that.

How about a FP trading booth outside the back entrance to Epcot? I give you my 4pm FP for TSM in exchange for yours for Soarin as we switch parks!

IMO this is why it works to allow late arrivals-I bet a ton of FP's never do return each day, meaning the stand by lines are just that much faster.

Reserving from home may end up not being used a lot of times as well. But its the whole "convenience" theme (ADR/DP/ME/bag check/EMH etc) from Disney that this would fit right into.

Folks that stay up and sleep in (or fish or golf mornings) are shut out of FP for the best attractions-they suddenly would have an option to help create a vacation more taylored for their vacation habits-and it costs Disney nothing to entice them, instead of penalizing them.

I think they know "X" number of fastpasses will be no-shows and that's factored into the return times and the overall number of fastpasses distributed. Aside from the logistics of a fastpass trading post, they would also have to reduce the number they give out each day.

Wasn't serious about the trading post -- my wife hates that I'd walk across the park at the designated time to get a new set of FPs, I can't imagine she'd ever tolerate going to trade them.

I'd love on on-line system that enables you to plan a day a bit better, especially if it won't let you get any more FPs than by showing up at the kiosk.

Exactly, both parties win. Its the same system as now, just in an organized and lower stress environment. The mad rush at rope drop will be eliminated for many parties-why go through that if you have FP's for TSM at 2PM in hand the night before.

I disagree - it'll be like the dining plan, for fastpasses. Obsessive planners will hog all the passes early on, whether they plan to use them or not. People who don't like to have every moment of their day planned out six months ahead of time will be shut out.

I like it just the way it is, thankyouverymuch.

Maybe-but currently the obsessive rope droppers and early risers hog all the passes early on as well-exact same thing. But like you say many will not even show up, making the "nonplanners" standby line that much shorter.

Plus I don't think they will eliminate the current system altogether, I think the FP return times in the park will just ratchet ahead faster than normal. But with fewer folks rushing in, they may not be changed much at all.

Certainly if they decide to allow all FP's to be dispersed ahead of time and eliminate the FP machines at the park-then that is significant, but I imagine they will pick a percent (maybe 1/2) that can be reserved. I further imagine certain attractions and/or times may fill up as well in reservations, so that will take some planning as well. Will be interesting.

You can Get there early and ride a bunch of rides without a FP with the current system.

The only ride you really need to be up early to get a fastpass for is TSM. I have never made a single rope drop (except for once in Tokyo) -- I usually don't arrive until late morning or even lunch -- and I rarely miss out on fastpasses for the attractions I want to visit. Even Soarin'.

There's simply no reason to reinvent the wheel on this or blow up the system simply because it's hard to get passes for one ride.

It is absolutely impossible to come up with a system that everyone will deem fair.

Current system: Not fair to late risers.
Reservation system: Not fair to the non-planners or technically inept
Resort system: Not fail to the non-resort guests
Smartphone system: Not fair to those not willing to shell out an extra $30 a month to call their phone "smart"

Well, OK, there is one system that is sort of fair: No system. Then everyone stands in the lines and we are back to 1999 with 2+ hour Splash Mountain waits in the July sun, and everyone complains that they only got to do half the things because they were stuck waiting in lines...but even this system is unfair to the late risers as the lines are shorter in the morning....

Given that we have ZERO details on how the new system will actually work, debating fairness over it is kinda foolish...

Jungle Cruise
Toy Story Mania
All shows
Living with the Land.

Anytime i have gone to Disney (June-August) Peter Pan has had a HUGE wait and its "outside." Buzz, Jungle Cruise, and Pooh have longer wait times as well.

As for no FPs, a perfect example of what will happen...Tomorrowland Indy Speedway! The line always has a long line and there is no FP! I agree that the FP systems need updating but i dont think they need to be taken away from the current locations

Even if that were true-it may be worth leaving everything as it is currently, but allow 1/2 of the FP's for a few select attractions to be reserved. It would still reduce the stampede to TSM, and also allow others to plan/enjoy TSM stress free. The early risers would not even see a change except less people in the am, the FP's they can still acquire until they are gone as usual.

It is amusing that people are arguing about a system with no details announced at all...way to be judgemental guys!
