Fastpass for those not using Fastpass+

I'm sure the answer to this is hidden somewhere on the forums but googling only brings up FP+ info and the Magic Bands/FP+ threads here are sooo long. I figured I'd get a more straightforward answer this way... I hope my question isn't confusing or silly.

BF and I are going in Jan, neither of us have been in 2 years and clearly a lot has changed. I haven't been keeping up with the changes honestly because we didn't have this trip planned until very recently. Sort of a last minute thing.

Our situation is kind of different because we are staying on property and so we got invited to do MyMagic+ and are getting Magic Bands. But we are NOT USING FP+ because cast members aren't allowed to at this point in time. Kind of disappointing, but we're both used to the regular FP system so no harm no foul- we're basically getting the Magic Bands for novelty purposes.

My question is, has the new FP+ somehow affected the regular FP system? The regular FP system is still running as it normally did, right? Or has it changed and what should I know about the changes? Will it affect us at all?

1- Yes.
2- Technically, it operates in the same way.
3- The (apparent, via observation) change is that regular FP's seem to be running out much sooner
than they did before FP+ was so widespread.
But... that may or may not be too much of a problem in most of January due to lower crowds.
4- We'll all be finding out together, as this is the first January since FP+ has been distributed to all WDW resorts
(and, maybe more by then, too.)

I am sure that I am missing something but why are CMs not allowed to try FP+.

It would seem to me that you are some of the most knowledgeable people out there who could provide excellent feedback on your experiences with the system?

Hate (just kidding) that you get to go when the crowds are not as heavy.

Kids in school have prevented that for us (it seems like forever ago) for a long time.
