Fastpass changed?

I'm firmly in the "not a local, but prefer having to physically walk to a ride's FP machines to get a FP" camp. While I'd love the idea of a magic band (and even bought one I can't use because I go to WDW using my friend's CM guest entries) as option to a physical pass (not a replacement), I don't like FP+ and abhore the idea of passes being bookable by phone app or even a centralized kiosk. I like the effort it takes to get a FP with the legacy system.

Interesting experience: I was at DL on Monday and was issued a re-entry pass after being evacuated from BTMR. They asked for people's tickets and just electronically scanned the re-entry onto the ticket/pass. You could use it on any ride- they scanned your ticket again and let you in the FP line. I got to ride ToT on the last day after dark with my re-entry so that was a total win! But I've never seen that handled electronically before.

This isn't new. It's how DAS is handled and is a quick and easy way to take care of re-entry passes such as in your case. Although if I hadn't experienced it with DAS previously, I probably wouldn't have immediately guessed why I would sometimes see some guests getting their passes scanned.

I've also gotten physical return passes for re-entry which I prefer myself. They're usually good for up to six people and my mom and I like to sprinkle a bit of pixie dust for a group of two to four people by bringing them in with us on our re-entry pass. The electronic re-entry is limited to the number of passes scanned.

I travel a long way at great expense to be at DL at most one time per year. I'm not ok with it running smoothly "for the most part". The current system works fine. I don't want to switch to something that "mostly" works. If it's down today, I probably can't come back tomorrow to pick up what I missed.

Not sure if it was in the post that you quoted or another post but I did mention that I've been 5 times using FP+ and I have not had any issue with FP+ going down at all.
I've heard a couple people here and there take issue with it but honestly those stories that I've heard tended to not even be a problem with FP+ going down or anything but more that they were unhappy in some way so they received a couple freebie paper fastpasses which then couldn't be used to ride FEA.
You like paper fastpasses and that's great.
Here's hoping for your happiness that DLR stays just how it is.

Thanks. There is definitely room for all of us to have our own preferences. What Disney does with it will happen regardless of what we want. :)

My problem is that I'm not a fan even if it's working perfectly. Throw in typical Disney IT glitches and it only gets worse (to me).

I am encouraged by reports that there won't be advance booking, regardless of what they do. Because I think that's had a bigger impact on the system than anything.

Or those whose battery died.

Or can't connect to the network/cloud to bring up the FP.

Or if Disney installs WiFi, will it be able to handle a massive crowd of locals, that will use the WiFi for many things not related to Disney, or will there be service issues.

How about those phones that get lost/stolen, it happens all the time at Disney, especially on rides...

My cellphone is not a smartphone because I don't want to be connected to the internet 24/7. I often make my kid leave his cellphone in the hotel room on vacations, so he's not connected to the internet 24/7.

I would be okay with a FP system that linked FP to my ticket, did not have advanced booking or allow a person to hold more FP than under the old system, and was easily accessible via not only smartphones but also many kiosks, at the FP rides and other locations. (So lack of wifi/data doesn't put anyone at a significant disadvantage.) It's to my advantage to make people run all over to collect their FP, but I realize that can be difficult for some families and this would eliminate that problem, allowing people to book any FP within the same park. It would be electronic, not paper, which I know appeals to many people. I personally loved handing out spare FP to random people, but that was more fun in the old days when FP didn't expire anyway. And, don't add FP to every attraction -- leave things as they are or add FP only to a few attractions that arguably "need" it, like PP.

As said... do not need a network.... so no need Disney Wifi or connection to a cloud.

Battery died??? Sorry where is your proof of having a FP ??? NONE.... go Standby... sorry.

Lost phones.... normally for most is also means everything.... so FP probably the last thing on their mind....

Wouldn't it be fun to stand behind a bunch of people who forgot to bring their FP up on their phone before getting in line?

Probably that the very reason in WDW their have MB which is always on and easily read by readers.

Actually it is an easy thing to solve... just ask them to stand out of line when they are looking for it.
Or be nasty and say join the end of the line again. That will teach them.
For Soarin it probably mean a long line and their FP will expire by the time they reach. Serve them right for not being prepared.

Good luck asking them to step aside or getting nasty and telling them to get in the back of the line. These are the same CM's who won't stop line cutters and won't say anything when people put unattended blankets on the ground hours in advance of parade time to save spots while they go off and ride a bunch of stuff.

yes, that's the dilemma. Disney wants to keep good customer service.

It will probably be the same learning curve as enforcing FP return times.

I'm on my phone so I only scanned the article. But does this mean to use digital FP you have to pay $10 per day? I'll stick with the old fashion way.
