How does it work when DH and I want to trade off on a ride so that one of us stays with our son, but also use fast pass? Is that possible?

Do all rides have the 'trade off' option without waiting in line again?

You have that option in all rides that have a minimum height restriction that your son does not meet.

But I´m not to sure how it works with fast-pass... I think it might depend on the ride.

Yes, you can use FP. It depends on the ride; they tend to work differently. You would all go to the FP return entrance, and tell the CM there that you would like to do a child swap. Usually they hand you a child swap pass, and the parent with the kid hangs onto it, and the CM will tell you where to wait. It's sometimes at an exit where the parent who rode will see you as they exit the ride. Then they take the kid, you take your pass and go back to the FP entrance (or wherever the CM told you to go, usually it says on the pass) and they let you back in the line near the front.

As I said, it's a little different for each ride. On Indy, if the kid is smaller than the height requirement, you have to do your waiting outside the line (that's what I was told) because of safety regulations. :confused3

Don't worry about it, though, because the CMs are generally really nice and helpful, if you're confused about where to go or what to do. Especially if you ask politely. :)

Great, thanks for the info. The ride we both want to go on is Soarin so we'll see how that one works when we get there.

I'm not sure if you have this info, but height restriction on Soarin' is 40 inches. How tall is your kid? Maybe they can ride!

Get 2 fastpasses for Soarin' and double your riding pleasure! Get the fastpass, come back when you can ride and take the FP to the CM in the FP line, tell them you want a child swap, they will want to see the child, get the swap ticket, go on the ride, come back out, switch with your partner and you have only used one FP. (Wow what a run-on sentence!!) Then, if you want, you can go again right away, or wait and do something else with your little one and come back and use your other FP and child swap strategy.

We have used it that way many times and love that it doubles our FP collecting. This way we get to go on the ride a couple of times.

If the ride doesn't have FP, just tell the CM that you need a child swap and they will hand you a ticket and one of you rides and the other waits with your little one, then you switch.

One other thing we did was get a FP for everyone in our group, whether they were tall enough to ride or not. Then we usually had one or two extra FP's and could go a couple of extra times if we wanted to. It worked out great.
