DS has ASD, the first time we went to WDW he wanted to ride TSM. We had a FastPass for the ride but when we got off, he didn't understand that we just couldn't go right back on the ride like we did with the FastPass. Needless to say he had a meltdown of epic proportions. Is there a way of getting a FastPass and then immediately getting back on the ride with DAS?

The DAS return is always going to be the current standby minus 10 minutes. So if the standby line is an hour and you wait to get the DAS return until you go to use your FP then you will end up waiting for the DAS return time. You might want to send someone ahead to get a DAS time that you will be able to use within a few minutes of your FP.

Send someone ahead to get the DAS, which will be current standby minus 10 minutes. You can time your DAS so that it's available after your FP+. So if you have a FP+ for TSMM at 1:00pm, get your DAS time assigned in the morning. The DAS time won't expire so it's good until you use it. Use the FP+ first, then repeat the ride using your DAS.

Enjoy your vacation!

Oh thank you so much, I was trying to rap my mind about how I could do this without a major melt down. You two are amazing thank for this advice.

My only question would be about that last line. As far as I know, you would be able to get both a FP+ and a DAS return time for TSM but once you have ridden it using your FP, you would have to exit the ride and go back through the FP line which might result in not immediate access. If this will be an issue for your DS, maybe a social story about how you have to go back through the right line before you can ride?

Based on the whole post I thought she meant that he didn't understand why he had to go through a different line (standby) the second time.

Is the issue getting off the ride, or after he has gotten off? You can use a DAS any time after it has become available, as it won't expire like a FP+. You might want to explain that he can only ride two times (FP+ and DAS) in one day unless he wants to wait in the standby queue.

An important point -
If you have Botha DAS Return Time and a Fastpass and want to use DAS Return Time first, have him scan his band first. The Fastpass scanner I'll pick up the DAS time for his band and use it.
If you want to use the Fastpass first, he should NOT scan first.

This is important to keep in mind since the Fastpass has a beginning time and an end time. The DAS Return Time has only a beginning time; it does not expire until the park closes.

I was told by a CM that the system suposted to pick up the one that will expire first so since the DAS dose not expire it should use the FP one first also if you get any extra fast passes as part of your accommodation it should use the DAS before them.

'supposed to' and 'always will' may not always be the same. Some people have reported that when the DAS user scanned first, it used their Fastpass first, even though the Fastpass expired first.
That was early in the process of electronic DAS, but having someone else scanning first if you want to use Fastpass first is a very easy way to prevent using the DAS first if you don't intend to.

My advice to you is to have your FP time...know what types of wait times are going to be expected on each ride. For something like TSM if you are going prime time there is normally at least a 60 minute wait. About an hour before your FP time check the wait times on the MDE app...Go and get the return time for the ride with the DAS. Then when its time for your FP you can ride the ride with your FP and then jump back on the line with your DAS. Or if the wait time isn't that long ride the ride with the DAS first and then use your FP to ride the ride. Thats what we had to do for some of my sons fav rides so we could avoid melt downs. The biggest issue was Space Mountain...he wanted to ride that ride over and over and over again!

ok, so the time assigned does NOT expire? so you can get a time at a ride & come back several hours after that time & walk on?
i might have missed this, but if you use MB , does the CM still give you a card with the time on it? or do you have to write it down someplace to remember.

the DAS dose not expire but you have to use it that day, your return time will show up in your MDE app if you do not have one then you need to write down the return time you are not given any card with the time on it

FP+ times will expire; those have a window of 1 hour, and may have a grace period up to 15 minutes late.
DAS times are good "any time after x:xx" until midnight or park close. When you return, you'll be directed through the FP+ line; it's not necessarily going to be walk-on. You may only have 1 active DAS return-time, so yes you can get one and hold it for several hours but be aware that will tie up your DAS for that time. You cannot get another DAS return-time until you use or cancel the first.
There is no more card, it's all electronic either on your MB or ticket. DAS times should show up on your MDE app, but many families carry a small notebook or paper to write it on.

Enjoy your vacation!

If you scan your band first before the person using the das then it will take off the fp. To use the das when you return to the ride the person who the das is assigned to MUST scan first for the DAS to work.

I have to do this at my daughter's favorite rides... In the old days I could be stuck riding Dumbo for awhile. Now I just Das a return time close to my FP time. You get off the ride and exit and go right back the FP line. Easy Peasy!!! The hardest part is ignoring the dirty looks you get from the person on the standby line that you passed twice.

I have never notice anyone giving me a dirty look and I got to ride space about 4 times in less then an hour ( I had some anytime FP my normal FP and then the DAS)

1) You can time the DAS and FP to reduce waiting times.
2) But, you should not be able to avoid a wait.
3) You still must re-enter the line.
4) Just One of the BIG COMPLAINTS about the GAC, was letting people go directly back onto a ride.
5) This was blatantly unfair to those who have been waiting in line.
. . . ADA is meant to allow ACCESS not EXCESS
. . . lots of people complained that they had to wait, while others got special treatment
6) The DAS revision cured this.
. . . now you have to use a DAS and FP to get "almost" consecutive rides
. . . the line-wit times could be reduced to about 10-minutes, or so, if timed just right
. . . now, it is totally fair to all other guests

Not walk on, but enter through the FP queue. This will be shorter than the standby line but may not result in instantaneous access to the attraction.
