Fastest way to get an iPad 2

I've come to the conclusion that I just can't live without an iPad 2. I checked with Best Buy, and they're taking pre-orders. Apple.com has listed they'll ship in 3-4 weeks. Is there a quicker way to get my paws on one? I'd like to say that I can patiently wait, but I don't think that's going to happen! :)

Scroll down to the post by mo0620 with all the links. Each link is an individual iPad model. When you click it, just put in your zip code and it'll show you all the Target stores in your area and their availability. It took me a little while but I wound up getting one for me and one for my mom.

"Available" means they have 2 or more, "Limited Availability" means there's 1. It's fairly current but it's a good idea to call just to confirm.

Am I being really naive when I ask why you don't just go to the Apple Store and buy one? :confused3

The Apple geek in me wants to LOL...which is just what an Apple Store employee will do if you walk into a store and ask for one. They're very much backordered. :sad1:

After all the money I've spent in that store, the employee better not laugh at me!! :lmao:

Even though I have a small arsenal of Apple products, the the pull of the iPad has yet to reel me in, thus my ignorance on their availability.

I had absolutely no desire to have an iPad, but when I finally caved, I couldn't believe how useful it was. It almost completely replaced my laptop, and only almost because I can't do any web/graphic design on it. The new one is so much better too because it's thinner, lighter, faster...pretty standard as an upgrade but it's even more usable than the first. (I really really like it in case you couldn't tell)

I know, I know, and that's why I don't go play with one. If I do I'll have to have it. In this case, ignorance is bliss!!

Yes you are. ;) People are still lining up as early as 4:30 am around here at the Apple stores in hopes of getting an ipad2. It's crazy. One store hands out tickets then will sell them an hour before the official store opening. Another apple store close to us hands out tickets each morning then the customer returns later in the day to purchase the ipad2. The supplies are very limited. One day last week one of the stores near us received only 8 for the day.

My 40th birthday was Sunday and I received one. Best gift ever!

Now wait just a sec...each Apple store is getting deliveries (albeit small ones as far as the lines here in my area have proven) most days. I tried going on a Saturday at 6:30 a.m. to wait in line, but by that time there were already about 40 people in line at my local location. I had waited twice before in line and have found that the first folks almost always buy 2, so they do not get very far down the line before they are sold out for the day.

Last weekend, at a different local Apple Store, the magic time was 5 a.m. My BIL went at 5 a.m., in the rain, and was 4th in line. He was nice enough to purchase one for me too!

There are surely no guarantees that the store you are waiting at will get a shipment each day, but I have not personally experienced many days at the three near me where they did not get a shipment at all. So, if you are desperate, 5 a.m. seems to be the magic hour in the South Bay Area (San Jose, CA).

It's definitely possible to get in line at the crack of dawn and have a good shot at getting one. I just mean if you walk in at 2pm and ask, you'll get a fairly terse, tired response that they have none. Especially in Orlando...the Brazilian tourists are relentless.

Do the Brazillian's have a tour guide with them? Everyone follow the flag.... :)

You should have seen the shouting match at my local store last Friday. Some folks were really mad that they did not get iPads despite being in line for a while. The Apple Store folks were very calm and told them that people had been camped out and they were sorry, but perhaps they should try an earlier line up time another day. 3 customers screaming + two store employees being yelled out = an escort out of the mall by security.
