Fastest roller coaster in the world shut down due to injuries that included broken bones

I think there is also one in New York, but Kennywood in Pittsburgh also has an old Jack Rabbit from 1920 that was my kids' first coaster. Mine was the Blue Streak at Cedar Point.

The Kennywood Jack Rabbit is an awesome "little" coaster.

My first was either the Greyhound at Willow Grove Park, PA, or the Hunt's Pier Flyer in Wildwood, NJ.

Oh man, we missed going to Fuji-Q Highland when we went to Japan in 2019. Didn't have enough time, but all 3 of us love coasters so no doubt we would have ridden this.

Unlike @starvenger, I prefer metal to wooden. My favorites are smooth, fast rides with lots of air time. I have no issues with launch coasters, I like them. What I don't need to do is go upside down. I am so short that the shoulder harness bangs my head back and forth, it hurts!:headache: I can take the newer wooden rollercoasters just fine, my second favorite ride at Kings Island is Mystic Timbers. But The Beast, is truly a beast to my body. Too violent of a ride now that it's 42 years old. When you start the second half of the ride my body is asking why I was so stupid to try it again!

I rode Son of Beast several times before it was shut down due to injuries. I was younger, so maybe that is why it didn't bother me too much. I don't remember feeling as awful as I do now getting off its father.

COOL!!

Kennywood's Jack Rabbit was my dh's first coaster.
Mine was Blue Streak at CP.

The Beast at Kings Island has what must be the world's slowest chain lift (the first one). It seemed to take a half hour to reach the top of the first hill.

The spiral after the second chainlift is insane!!

This is why I like the restraints for rides like Yukon Striker, where there is a rubber vest that restrains you and the shoulder bars are wide enough so that you don't whack your head on them. Granted, it does take away from the free fall a bit, but I will take that over shoulder restraints that make me feel concussed at times.

I've seen a variety of restraint types. Quite a few these days are designed to actually keep the ride from shifting around too much. I've been on some 20 year old coasters where there's a little bit of play in the shoulder restraint and the rider shakes around a little, even if it's near impossible to slide out completely.

We have a newer ride around here that has something that covers the rider.
