Fast Passes returning?

I am noticing really high wait times this week -- Does anyone know if the fast pass system is in use this week or will be returning soon?

Seems unlikely at this point. I'd imagine some lead time would be built in at least by a few weeks. I'm wondering when they'll bring them back as well.

Might be tied in to when they unveil Genie and even then who knows, they could go with 1 or 2 virtual queues. Whatever happens, I get the feeling it's somehow going to be different from the standard 3 FPs 30/60 days in advance.

No, wait times are typical to this time of the year, no mention on thre system returning this year at all
Sorry - I meant wait times are higher as compared to the last few weeks with the lower crowd capacity limits. This week, they seem high especially without the use of fast passes.

Fingers are crossed that they finally dump FP+ and go with more of DL style MaxPass system. No more planning rides 2 months out!!! You get a FP once you scan in. It just makes more sense.
We've never been to DL but think I'd be down for something like that. More spontaneous and less line waiting, right?

Also to consider is even if the wait times are similar this year, guests don't have the 3 relatively quick FP rides to average in and bring down their total line time each day.

The DL system works well if you're a morning person and have no problem getting to the parks first thing. On the other hand, if you like to relax and sleep late and get to the park later in the day you will find out that all the good FPs have gone. And the unpredictability of the FP times that will be available would wreak havoc on any ADR times reserved well in advance. With DL being largely a park for locals with many spur of the moment visitors, Maxpass works better there than the 30/60 day reservation system, but I would be surprised if WDW went in the same direction, especially since the 60 day window is such a powerful incentive for people to stay on property.

The FP system at DL is, in my opinion, superior to the one at WDW. It's the same set of rules for everyone regardless of whether you're an on site guest, an AP holder, or an off site guest...can't get a FP until your ticket has been scanned into that park.

Onsite guests would need some perk. That's big business in WDW.

Just curious, why shouldn't an AP Holder or On-Site guest get a perk?

my guess is what ever they roll out...it will not be included in the price of a park ticket. Disney is hurting for revenue.......and charging for FP+ or MAXPASS type thing is all but assured at this point.

The wait times are high because of social distancing in the queues and on the ride vehicles.
Implementing FPs would just make the standby lines even longer as the lines can't constantly be moving as they stop to allow FP guests through.

If people are required to spread out 6 feet .. it simply takes more time to walk through the queue because the distance between the start and end of the line is just LONGER... even though there is probably less people in it during "normal" times.

The only thing to reduce the long wait times (which are probably less than a normal Thanksgiving holiday with all things considered) ... is to either drop the max capacity allowed in the parks or reduce social distancing which Disney (and the virus!) isn't ready to do yet.

They have tried to help by installing plexiglass on multi-party ride vehicles, but until they shorten the distance between the social distance stickers -- lines are just going to be "long".

Parks are basically at capacity this week, so wait times are going to be higher than we’ve ever seen since reopening. But I really hope beyond all hope that FP never returns.

Yep, nothing like scanning in and then trying to manage your phone to snag a FP while run-walking as quickly as possible through the crowds to get to the rides that don't offer FP at all at park open.

Agree .. at least in its old form.

I think it's flaw is that it was so widely used (aka .. EVERYONE) .. that it sorta became the defacto standby line and practically needed at some rides to avoid a SUPER long wait and useless in a lot of attractions. I felt it only worked well at MK because of the sheer amount of attractions that park has.

If it was limited to a lot less users (a LOT less) and only on attractions that truly need it .. then it would be a more useful perk and it wouldn't hold up the standby lines as much.
The only way to limit it though is either pay for it .. or make it exclusive to resort guests only. (Which would make a lot of people unhappy).

And don't get me started about having to make your reservations for a ride 60 days in advance. While it was great when you did get it ..just felt awful when you couldn't even get a FP for the big rides even 60 days in advance exactly at 7:00 AM (because your resort stay wasn't "long" enough to actually make the reservation at like 65+ days in advance).

The "good" news is .. it could be a long time before Disney has the capacity where line skipping is "needed" again.

It's basically the old fastpass system, but you can book on your phone and you pay for it. No thanks, IMO. I like not having to get the the park as soon as it opens to be able to get a good FP. Or when you got to TSMM first thing, but still got a fastpass for like 5pm so you're stuck there all day.
