We just got our tickets, and are heading to WDW in a week, so needless to say all the high-demand stuff is unavailable. Is it worth using a FP for Illuminations? Thanks

I'd say no. There are plenty of places around the lagoon for good viewing without wasting a FP.

I really liked the viewing area, but we got it as a 4th FP. Keep trying throughout the week to change it. You never know when a FP will come available. I do know every time I've kept trying for a particular FP, I've been successful-- and we usually go at high crowd times.

You should still be able to get majority of rides throughout each park at a week out. We usually book about 2-3 weeks out every trip and it's usually easy to get everything outside of maybe 2 or 3 things.

I wouldn't waste a FP on illuminations as there's so many spots to watch the show from.

Ditto this. In this case, it was definitely worth it. Didn't have to stake out a spot early, and it is a really good viewing area.
