Not sure why but am I the only one terrified of this new system? I have been going to WDW for 20+ years and have my systems on how to attack parks down pat. Many of my friends have marveled at seeing the way I can navigate the park and get through efficiently. I'm just not sure how to take all this change right now. So here is my thoughts on the goods and bads. Feel free to chime in.

The good
No more rope drop dash for FP.

DVC resorts stays get 5 FP per day.

Has to be more but not seeing

The bad
Although we would have a loose plan on what park what day, sounds like if I am pre booking rides I will be locked into a certain one each day.

DVC resort stays only get 5 FP per day. I listed this twice because in i want to say i've gone over 5 in a day. Although not common I'm pretty sure I've done it.

I will truly miss giving away my extra fast passes. My DW won't do certain rides and my DS will not do multiple times on some. Always enjoyed finding someone heading to standby and telling them to enjoy.

Here is what I don't know.

Can I book multiple FPs for the same ride in a day? I and my DD love to ride SM in MK in the morning and evening and could always swing back and get a second later in the day. Not sure this is possible in the new system

Will there be less FPs be given out overall? My understanding is certain guests will only be able to obtain cetain amounts. If that is true could that be both good and bad for standby lines? I recall a previous well written post about how if FP was eliminated totally it would actually benefit the standby lines.

Feeling long winded here. I guess skipping this year has me on heavy withdrawls and need to think about my next trip in Aug 2014

The Unofficial guide to WDW 2014 also stated hearing a rumor that Deluxe resort guests will may get 5.

I do not believe its all figured out yet

As someone who does not rope drop, I love the idea of advanced TSM, TT and Soarin FP+. I'll have dinner ADR's already made, so it should be easy to line those up.

I don't like the 1 FP+ park/day though.

The "VIP-like" parade and fireworks seating areas for FP+ reservations are a nice touch.

Tap to enter hotel room locks are really, really nice (no more, "put the card in the other way, no, turn it upside down"!)....as long as they don't open themselves when the Mickey head gets bumped off.

The rumor that DVC and deluxe guests will get more than 3 is simply that a rumor.

Nice rumor but still a rumor. I have heard through very reliable sources though that great things are coming for DVC members. Of course what is great to one, might not be so to another. Guess time will tell.

We have been asked to test and I am loving the booking part. As to the actual use of it, have to wait and see.

As to multiple times for same attraction that answer is no. It has to be 3 different experiences.

So I edited my post. I thought that deluxe would get 5 per day and assumed if I stay at my home base I would get it. 3 a day would put a damper on my assumptions

I don't want to be scheduling rides like ADR . I don't think I will like the FP+ system either

I'm scared to death. I am going to make best of double fp for this trip and an ADR for wishes/illum and fantastic...

Now the down ...I'm annoyed I had to skip DDP and bbb cause I didn't book 180 days out. (I know others don't love it like me but I cannot pay 116$ oop for chef Mickey, but I can justify 1400$ for the week .., maybe I am crazy but some how it is different). So i have 0 character meals planned onatead of 1 -2 a day and a luau .

There was sooo much I couldn't get... I am dreading the day when I have to skip a whole park on a trip, cause there are no fp left for tsm. I am not the stalker/caller ever 10 mins up find a cancel... I am fine skipping some things like all of hs. Playing in the pool and dtd/ city walk/ aoa / putting a few beach nights/ days in.

This trip (9/20- 9/29) I started planning (except room) about 4.5 months out. I couldn't get sooo many adrs no wishes dessert party, Then.., Called today to add bbb nope so sorry .

I am afraid of missing out on favs like siarin, safari, tsm, buzz dvt... with needing to figure out not only dining, and bbb but now which rides and times you want months in advance.

What about when a new discount is double fp instead of fd ... Or you decide 3 days out you wanna go to dw... The system will be broken for this...

There is toooo much planning now... This will make it worse :(

My dreams if the Poly are put on hold until I figure out if this will work for us... Or if we will be multi yr cruisers instead with a random Disney trip instead of multi Disney goers and random cruise other trip.

I am in no way looking forward to this new system!! I joined DVC in 2006. My first 2-3 vacations were all about planning. I would check park hours, make a grid of where we were going in the AM, where we would eat, what park in the PM, EMH, etc etc. I must have been sooooo annoying rushing people to get a bus, running to FP machines, etc.

Finally, one summer, we just decided to sleep in one morning and hit the pool. (I think everyone was sick of me running them ragged, lol) We went down to SAB and spent the day in the pool, relaxing, reading, napping on lounge chairs. It became "our thing". We would go out at night and either just walk to Epcot, boat to studios, or just catch whatever bus came first. It was a great vacation!

Since then, I have done that. I don't look at park hours. I wait until I get the weekly sheet at check-in. Some days I get up and go to a park. Other days, we go to the pool. Sometimes we get to a park and it's too hot/too crowded/raining/whatever and we go back to our villa. BC WE CAN!

I am in no way looking forward to a new kind of vacation that requires a major level of pre-planning. I have no interest in it at all!!! DVC finally got me out of that way of vacationing, I don't want to go back to it. I just spent 2 weeks there and saw what just the testing phase did to rides. Almost every ride has a FP. Even ones that would never need it. The stand-by lines were atrocious (bc we know that FP actually makes the stand-by longer) I actually said after this past vacation I may stop getting APs bc I don't want to worry about planning my FP, basing my day on where I reserved FP, giving up doing something else I'm enjoying bc I have to rush to that FP at a park. I also don't like the limits, and I don't like the one park thing. Bc of my frequent visits, I could get to a park, work the FP system and stand-by lines to go on tons of rides a day. Those days will be gone!

I called DVC and told them all of this and they were very interested in what I had to say. They actually put me on the phone with a supervisor that spoke to me for almost half an hour. I also spoke to DVC reps at Epcot and they are also members. They are also not happy about this new way. They said WE HAVE TO COMPLAIN! They said behind Cruise Line, most of Disney's money comes from DVC. If we don't complain, nothing will be done. I told them right out, I will prob now start using my points elsewhere. I want to "go home", which I said is their big hook. I said home is not about rushing and planning like crazy. DVC is there for us to relax. I said I felt like this new system is a direct slap in the face to DVC people. Kind of like Disney already got our money and we have a contract with them, so who cares about us. The people I spoke to said this point needs to get across to Disney.

So if you are unhappy, please call!! I said it should be different for DVC. Considering the money we have all put out, it should be. We go for weeks, I don't want this planning stuff being forced down our throat. Yes, it's optional. But regardless of whether you do it or not, it is going to affect the time by everyone spent there. I saw a touch of it last month and wasn't liking it.

Ok, sorry for the lengthy post. I had to vent LOL

So far I like it. I like that I don't have to get to the Studios at opening and run to Toy Story to get a Fastpass. I booked mine for the late afternoon. I love that knowing that before I go.

I liked booking fireworks and Illuminations and Fantasmic, because again, I don't have to spend time trying to get a good spot hours before.

So far I like it a lot.

@SusanWasHere

I don't think testing increased lined this year as much as more people going to WDW increased lines this year. Even before FP+ testing this summer, people were remarking that crowds were bigger than previous years.

In addition to bigger crowds, the current FP- usage is a bit off because people can pull 2 or more FP- at a time (using park tickets and old KTTW's)

I don't know, the crowds didn't seem bad at all?? The one night we went to MK and the sidewalks were not busy at all, and yet Pirates and Philharmagic were both up to hour waits. Same thing at Epcot with Spaceship Earth. The line was outside, all the way through both sides and out on the sidewalk, I had never in my 26 trips seen the line that long. And it was a weekday about 7:00 pm. Pirates was out the door, down the sidewalk bc now they only have 1 side open and only Magic Band people could use it. No way! I was also there July 1-11 when a lot less people were testing and the lines were nothing compared to what they were Aug 12-25 and it was a lot more crowded in July.

Either way, I don't want to plan, plan, plan, plan. Nor do I want to be in stand-by lines that are 45 minutes long when usually they were 10. We always go for 2 weeks in August, almost every year since '06. I know the planners love this, but this was the first trip that I was not enjoying my experience, finding myself being negative about Disney (which I have NEVER been), and seriously considering whether or not I am going to keep my membership long-term. And for me to be saying that? My friends that I spoke to about it thought I was sick bc I was anti-Disney LOL. I truly believe this new way is going to adversely affect the experience of people that go to Disney to relax and actually vacation, but still want to take part in everything. It's possible, bc I've done it over many many trips. I just think it may be a thing of the past.

We sat with a family for lunch that was doing the FP+. They were AP holders from Naples, FL who came down often and weren't big planners. They said it was the worst vacation they had ever had there. They hated the planning, the dependence on their phones, and the feeling of having to make those FP times. The woman said they were in no rush to come back, and that they had complained many times. After spending an hour and a half with them, and hearing about their experience, it just turned me off. And I can't tell you how many times I tried to sign into MDE just for dining stuff and wait times and it crashed saying there was a BLIP in the program. All those people trying to get on at the same time? It was a nightmare.....

I don't think the lines will be as long with FP+ being used by everyone , cause now you basically have two system being used and stand by , I can se that being issue for stand by and even reg FP users may run out of FP sooner . Once FP+ in full effect I would assume it will be solitary or better for stand by .

If they are going to add more FP rides they can't have a 3 ride limit that would be horrible .

So far I like it. I like that I don't have to get to the Studios at opening and run to Toy Story to get a Fastpass. I booked mine for the late afternoon. I love that knowing that before I go.

I can see the positives to it to but what happens with outdoor rides and it rains that day your SOL .

I am not sure how FP+ will help with the night shows once everyone starts using it , wouldn't that mean everyone would have to be somewhere . I feel that is just something they are doing while testing since not everyone is using FP+

Boy I could not agree with you more in everything you said. I have been adding my 2 cent on different posts and it is like you are crazy... We have been going now for 13 years with DVC and spend 3 weeks in Oct/Nov and 3weeks in Feb/March.(as a matter of fact we did not even book this last March but did go for 10 days at the end of May into June)..and we now do exactly what you described. When there in M/J we also experienced the long lines and usually only could get stuff done if we went early and left. and just went and walked around a little at night. After all this we came home and said the same thing this is not fun and it is going to get worse and we spend alot of money with DVC MF and AP's and it seems like the Disney Magic is gone and seriously considering selling, not happy at all but are booked for Oct 16 thru Nov 6 and will be a test to see. This planning is not what we signed up for(like you said we often take the first bus that comes along) I am not good at complain and calling or explaining like you did but would love to let them know how unhappy we are but to be honest like you also said they have our money and don't care... even if we sell , it passes on to someone else or they ROR it and get it back and resell. especially ours 350 at BWV (other at SSR) with people wanting for Wine and Food...I think they will just listen and pretend they are sympathetic and go on their merry way...they spent a ton of money on this...and the masses with eat it up, just like "free dining"
Sorry to be so negative, just voicing the frustration we have felt lately at Disney.:( :sad2:

Good stuff. You all are hitting my exact concerns with this system. Sounds like the veterans like myself think this is a not an improvement. A PP mentioned complaining now but I will be hard pressed to do so without actually experiencing the system. I think given the time and money invested no complaints are going to change course Disney has set

I sure hope those great things include payment plans for APs and maybe even a Premier Pass discount... ;)

We were able to participate in Magic Band testing. We had a little trouble getting the bands to work on our room door, but the next day had them double check everything at the concierge desk. They made sure our tickets and bands linked up, etc.

We went to HS and our bands worked at the ticket readers! That was exciting. Plus, we were able to schedule FP+ rides at HS using the MDE app. I was even able to reschedule Toy Story Mania to be a little earlier (I think it was about a 30 minute alteration) to help us get out of the park sooner. The app offered 4 different options, we just selected one that seemed best, the I had altered it slightly after a few hours as I mentioned.

We never have used paper Fast Passes, we aren't early risers, or park commandos, so this new FP+ works for us. It's the first time we got to experience the FP line, it worked out great in our opinion. I saw many people being turned away at TSM because all the paper FPs were given out for the day. It had a 90 minute wait. We don't like to wait for rides, since we have annual passes, we just don't wait in line, we'll usually just wait until we stay on site then use the EMH time to get on rides.

We liked the overall program and are looking forward to using Magic Bands and FP+ in the future. I'm okay with a 3 ride limit if that is how they have to work it. That's automatically 3 rides we wouldn't have to wait in line for, and like I said we don't go early enough or go around to the places to get paper FPs.

So glad to hear I'm not the only one! I have never been so negative towards Disney in my life. It feels weird bc I am usually shouting from the rooftops how amazing it is. I am not looking forward to the affect this is going to have on my experience. It's not for everyone - nor should it have to be. I liked it just fine the old way. You could plan or not plan. This way is going to be all planning. And if you don't - there will be consequences. Ugh....

Have to agree with a lot of you PPers.

I am really worried about FP+ and its impact on our vacations. We honeymooned at Disney couple years ago, and are pretty much making it our yearly "thing" so, I thought, DVC was it for us. For our upcoming trip, I was super stoked to buy DVC, even though we have some other expenses going on this year, I figured, in the long run, it would be worth it. Esp if we bought resale.

Anyway, the FP+ thing has completely put us off buying DVC until we see how it pans out. Instead, we are renting points for our upcoming trip, still getting the DVC experience, but, still not the same either :(

We are really worried about things we just don't have info on yet.

1) will it be a hard limit of 3 per day, or will you be able to get additional FPs on the day of ?
-current testers have said they have been able to use both, BUT, we don't know if that will still be true in full roll out

2) how much availability will there be and how far out are you going to have to book it ?
-how many FPs will be available for the popular rides, how many people will be on at the 60 day mark booking it up ?
-at least paying cash for a room, if at your 60 day mark you can't book the features you want, you can just cancel your reservation and get your money back. But if you have to book at 11 or 7 months out to get the resort and room category you want, you are locked in a long way out. Waiting until 60 days before your trip to see if you are actually going to enjoy your trip the way you want, not acceptable.
-The BIGGEST proponents of this system (including a PP) keep saying stuff like, "oh this is great, I don't have to do RD and rush for FPs anymore. I can now go into the park when I want to and do what I want when I want." or "We love this since we like to go in the afternoon (or evening) and now we will be able to FP whatever we want" .... Except, this is based on availability !!!! Don't they think everyone else (esp rope droppers) are going to want to book afternoon and evening FPs ? There are also a bunch of RDers who are saying this is going to be great because they can "hit rope drop, ride until 11 with no standby waits, then go back to the resort for a few hours and come back in the afternoon/eve for our FP+s"
-Both of these groups of people can't win from this new system. Both might in fact lose. Afternoon/eve folks might find a whole new flood of people booking up their FPs 60 days in advance, and Rope Droppers might find a bunch of people, after not being able to get FPs for afternoon/eve take the only slots they have left, the morning, and even at RD FP lines will be slowing down standby.

3) How are they going to deal with issues during the trip. What happens if it storms hard on Monday ? Do I simply lose all my FPs ? (probably) But what if Monday was our MK day ? Do I now just not go to MK on my trip ? Or are they going to say "well, standby is still an option", because sorry, that's crap.
-there are just SO many things that can happen ON a trip which change your schedule, kids sick, weather, tiredness, maintenance of attractions, etc. FP+ seems to -really- limit your flexibility while you are ON your trip.
-testers seem to be able to adjust their plans quite well, but the system isn't fully up and running, there are only a very very few people on the FP+ system, for all we know there are unlimited FP+s (up to 3 a day pp) for attractions during testing. This will change once its fully rolled out, each attraction has a maximum capacity, and maximum FP+ capacity.

4) Will it be a tiered system, will values get 3, mods 4, Deluxe 5 ???
-lots of rumors about this, even though we would likely benefit from the system, I still don't think this would be something good to employ. Just not fair to the children and families who save all they can to afford a once in a lifetime (for many) trip, only to have a "less magical" trip because of where they can afford to stay.

5) When is this going to go live completely and when are we actually going to get some straight answers, not just Disney spin ? I think its already insane that people are having to book trips, not knowing what the conditions of those trips are going to be.

Anyway, just a few of my concerns, for now we will rent DVC, if the new system does not detract from our vacation, great, if it improves it (and I have seen nothing that suggests it will), AWESOME. If it negatively impacts our trip, we not only will not buy DVC, but might just have to change our yearly "thing" as well :(
