Fast Pass with free Disney tickets

Hi! I'm new so not sure if I'm doing this correctly

My question is, we will be receiving free Disney tickets (thanks to family working there). How does fast pass work with free tickets? Last time we went, our cousin met us at the gates and he gave us the tickets there or maybe he used something to scan us through, I can't remember. Would we be able to purchase magic bands and put fast passes on those? Or is it too much of a hassle since we won't be getting our tickets until we arrive.

We will be staying off-site.

There are 10 of us going to a few of us will have free tickets and others will purchase their tickets in advance.

The ones who have tickets in advance can make FP+s at 30 days out from use.
Those getting thier tickets at the park will have to make them when they get there.
You don't need a MB to do FP+, nothing is "put" on them (they are $12.95 for offsite guests). You just use your plastic ticket to make them.
