Fast Pass while not at a Disney Hotel

How does a guest at the Disney World parks Fastpass attractions if they are not staying at a resort hotel?

I've always stayed at one when I go there and used my Disney account, so I never had to worry about it! But, I'm meeting up with a friend when I go in December who might want to FP some of his own rides even though he's not staying at a Disney hotel. So, how does he do it? Through the My Disney Experience app? Some other way?

Anyone can use the My Disney Experience app. The only difference is getting to book your fast passes 30 days in advance, as opposed to an onsite guest's 60 days. They will use their plastic ticket card at the Fast Pass lines.

He can make his fast pass reservations using the MDE app or website 30 days prior to his trip. He will have to make 1 day of FP at a time as each day reaches the 30 day mark. If he has a magic band, he can scan that to use the fast passes at each ride, otherwise he can just scan his ticket card.

You can book FPs for your friend if you add him to your MDE - he doesn't need his own - and he will share your 60-day booking window.

If he has his own MDE, link his MDE to yours and he will still share in your 60-day window if you group him with you when booking FPs.

As I understand it, there shouldn't be any reason they couldn't get a MagicBand also. They'd just have to pay the $12.99 (Basic) - 27.99 (Characters) and buy one online or at a shop. I see a lot of folks using the plastic cards and can't help but wonder why they don't just get a MagicBand.

Because it's another 13-28 dollars you might not need to spend. And if you have a party of more than one or two - that adds up. So - I get why offsite folks don't but magicbands!

We are offsite for our next trip - and we think everyone has found an old MB that should still be working in their name/linked to MDE - so we are feeling lucky!

Well, yeah, you can, but you don't have to. It seemed like the OP was asking how FP could work for an offsite guest, so I was just explaining.

I actually prefer the plastic card and even though I do have a few magic bands when I stay offsite I just use the card. The only reason I use it onsite is for charging and I actually use the magic keeper as I don't like to wear the MB. IMHO if you have it handy on a lanyard its just as easy to use the plastic card as it is to use a MB.

As far as the OP's actual questions, as previously said if they OP and the friend are traveling together just make the FP+ together. Otherwise he/she can set up their own MDE and make FP+ at 30 days for their party.
