So, family of 4 going to bc in August. Wife and 2 kids love TTOT and I refuse to go on it. I am happy to let them use their fast passes while I wait and just enjoy waiting and enjoy just being at Disney. But I need to use my fast pass so we can use all of our fp's up so we can try to get another say 4th one. If I just don't use my fp will I get credit for using it when the time expires? Or do can I swipe pass before entering and use it up that way and then leave before I get on the ride? Or should I give mine to my wife to swipe?
Does this question make sense or is it as stupid as it seems in my writing/asking it?
Thanks!

How about letting your wife ride a second time while you take the kids for some ice cream or popcorn?

Have your wife decide if she would like to ride again and use your FP. If not, swipe your MB at the FP tapstile and then walk away. You don't have to enter the line; just tap the tapstile and then move on to the location where you'll meet them after the ride.

Yes, the FastPass counts as being used if you miss its time window.
With the new FP system, there have been reports that expired FPs have to be rescheduled and at least "tapped" to register as being used. A 4th FP could not be booked due to leftover expired FPs and CMs advised to reschedule for an immediate ride and then "tap" to open up booking for the 4th.

Isn't the "reschedule" the same thing as a 4th FP?

No, not in a Tiered park. That's where it created a huge problem for a DISer. She couldn't book a 4th FP (Tier 1) because 1/2 her group had returned to the resort with their MBs and their expired Tier 2 could not be "tapped out" nor canceled. The CMs advised to reschedule the Tier 2 and "tap out" to register its use. The group had to return to get that completed.

How annoying.

I know. Disney has upgraded to keep guests from having multiple Tier 1s without using their initial 3. "Tapping out" appears the fastest way to "use" an unwanted Tier 2. @marciemi and others are still researching for the FP Superthread to see if another workaround may still exist.

Can you just book 2 in advance, then after using those, book one for another (non-tiered) park.

Yes. And even if you use a Tier 1 in Park #1, you can book a Tier 1 in Park #2. There were some threads yesterday where I posted some park hopping info from marciemi.
