Fast Pass Return Time Enforcement

Well, I had been holding out hope that DLR would not be enforcing the end-times but after reading the MP DL update this morning, it looks like it is confirmed for DLR as well. I'm bummed but I do respect that Disney has the right to do what they want with the FP system so we will adjust our plans accordingly. We have certainly enjoyed being able to use FP later in the day although it may not affect us all that much since we tend to show up at Rope Drop and leave by mid-afternoon anyway (although our day trips have been getting longer since the kids got older).

I will miss being able to hop to CA and then have FPs to use when we come back to DL later.

One thing that bothers me a bit is the use of the word "abuse" to describe people using the FPs after the end-time (don't recall if it was here or on MP though). We have been told by numerous CMs that the FPs could be used later in the day so I don't feel it is abuse to do what the Disney employees have told us is allowed. We have also been told my CM's about tender rides, riding in the wheelhouse of the Mark Twain, etc. Those aren't published rides, yet guests are allowed to enjoy them. That to me is similar to FP end times. And similar to how we would feel if they stopped allowing Tender Rides or wheelhouse rides, we may not be happy about it, but we will respect it when CMs are no longer allowed to let us use FPs after the end-time.

Yes, MP has got confirmation from DLR CMs that they are "re-training" to enforce the FP return time. It also looks like they change will be around the same time as in WDW.

We are coming for our first family visit to DL this summer too. For me I think it simplifies things a bit as I was getting bogged down in the hopping between parks. Now, I'm just going to treat them like 2 seperate parks for the first 2 days. And then hop back and forth the next 3 in a relaxed manner.

My dh & I went for one day & pretty thoroughly did both parks in one day but it was very complicated getting this FP and that FP in this park and then that park.

I do hope in both WDW & DL, but expecially DL, that they don't make it bad for locals or day trippers. I love the unique flavor at DL. It feels like Walt's park built for his local so-Cal family to enjoy on days off from work.

If there is a high-rollers "buy a FP magic pass" I really don't mind. If Tom Cruise or Gwen Stafani get to pay big bucks and ride without lines, I don't mind. They won't have fun standing in line with all of us "fans" anyway.

And I understand the mentality of having perks for staying at their hotels, like get a FP for staying on site that you can use on any one ride that day.

But I would HATE if daytrippers and locals were totally cut out. And if DL is looking for their bottom line to increase with these changes, alienating the locals is a bad idea. Say what you will, when you think of DL, or at least when I think of it, I think of Steve Martin learning his craft being a CM. Or Michelle Pfiffer being Alice in the Main St. Parade. I think of young stars dreaming of fame while honing their craft at the master's amusement park.

If there was no love shown to locals, there would be no Pixar. As John Lasseter fell in love with animated movies at DL and worked hard to make sure Disney's hard work wasn't lost.

I'm just saying: I hope they keep the locals and those like me who are true Disney fans happy and aren't just interested in the bottom line. As has happened before when they only care about the bottom line, Disney fans will stop going to Disney parks. Bad policies actually do make people like me stop going.

Disney Dreams - I'm with you 100% - I enjoy the flexibility of the policy as it is now. However, they do print a window on the FP and they have every right to enforce it as they see fit. I would, like you, be bummed if I was turned away but I would also know that I was the one taking the chance using it after the window printed on the ticket.

MP does state that some CMs say it may relax later, so maybe it will go back in a year or so.

I really hope they do start enforcing the end times. The system needs to work as designed. The way it is now, people bank their fastpasses and use them whenever they want. A fastpass is meant to hold one’s place in line until it is time to ride. Coming back after the window expires is like waiting in the standby line until you get to the front, then suddenly getting out to grab a corndog or a dole whip and expecting to go right back to the front again. Fastpass was never designed to be a “ride whenever you want” pass. If you don’t make it back within your window, you should be forced to get in line again.

I'll also be interested to hear which of the Cars-land rides will be FP-enabled, I haven't seen that yet either. (I assume Radiator Spring Racers...but that may be it.)

As far as I have seen, Radiator Spring Racers will be the only new ride in Carsland that has FP.

This has basically been confrimed. There is a sign visible from Mickey's Fun Wheel that is directing people to the RSR FP distribution.

3Minnie, when is the change going to take place? I'm just curious as to whether or not it will happen soon- like in the next month or two.

There is no definite date. Only misguided rumors.

I too enjoyed the little perk of being able to come back later...we always tried to go on time but didn't always make it.

Now, I am curious to see if they will extend the timeframe. Sometimes it is difficult to get back to an attraction within a timeframe especially if your window is soon but not soon enough to sit and wait for it.

Not sure if this happens a lot at Dl but it could at WDW...
What happens if you stand in line for Toy Story FP and by the time it is your turn, you get at 5pm window ...when you have a dining reservation across the park? Which can you go to?

I can imagine a lot of issues with guests having to go back and forth constantly.

Why do these threads always have to get nasty? (Though this one not as bad as some.) Can't we just all agree that late FP return is "allowed" by Disney, and leave the debate about "right" or "wrong" to other threads. This one is about whether "allowed" will be continued.

I for one wish that if they did start enforcing the window that they would also expand it to 90-120 minutes. As has been stated elsewhere, FP return times in the 1 hour timeframe sometimes conflict with Dining Reservations or show schedules.A two-hour window, while not 100% eliminating the issue, would make this a lot less likely, and therefore hopefully would result in less "complaints". By changing the window size, it would also really deliniate for guest that the system has been "changed". I still think they will get a lot of angry customers if they do not give any "warning" that things are changing. I can't complain about not being able to use them late if I know ahead of time, but if I wasn't told of the change, I would be pretty upset if I held my FP expecting to use them late and then was told I can't only after they were expired. You can say that was my fault for "abusing the system" but again Disney has set up to allow that "abuse" with no reprocussions, so if it changes without my knowledge, why wouldn't I be upset?

For WDW it is a confirmed date from internal notices to cast members. I thought a DL CM had also confirmed. Could be wrong though.

The talk on this side of the boards is about DLR not WDW.

For WDW it is confirmed. For DLR is has been confirmed that it is not coming at any known time or ever.

To curb this use—and some say way to lay the foundation for a new version of Fastpass expected to be part of Walt Disney World's super-secret NextGen project—the Orlando resort has notified cast members that beginning Wednesday, March 7, the official policy and the operational practice must become one. MousePlanet has confirmed that a similar memo was released to Disneyland Resort cast members as well.

However, some cast members suggest that Disneyland might quietly return to its current practice after a few months. "This is a Florida policy," said one ride operator. "We have to go along with it for now, but I don't see it lasting." Another cast member thinks the Disneyland resort might use this as an opportunity to tighten Fastpass enforcement prior to the opening of Cars Land. "We'll probably be strict about Radiator Springs Racers when that opens, but maybe not so worried if you're a few minutes late coming back for Roger Rabbit."

Not sure this is actual confirmation, but there ya go...take it for what it's worth.
