A few questions from someone who used to know how to tour the parks pre-FP+!

1. Do traditional FP still exist?

2. What time do FP times start? If you arrive at rope drop do you have an hour before FP times kick in? Is that different for mornings with EMH?

3. I am going to Animal Kingdom on an EMH morning and planning to be there at opening. We are planning on going straight to the Safari and maybe even riding it twice. We are only going to do a few things at AK. EE will probably do single rider. Would we be better served using FP+ for our afternoon trip to Epcot for Soarin?

Thanks!

1. No
2a. Park opening
2b. No
2c. No FP+ during EMH
3. I would book FP+ for Soarin.

Thanks! I think I should add a fourth question.

4. Do any veteran WDW travelers actually prefer the new system?

Yes, but don't count me among them.

Many FP FAQs are answered in the green link in my signature.

It's great for making the most of your arrival day and sleeping in days.

It can help ensure you get on popular rides during level 10 (Christmas, Easter) days.

No more running around to get FP's - less walking.

It takes the mystery out of wondering what fast passes will be available on a given day.

Experiences such as parades and fireworks are now FP options.

Park hopping can be better too, if you're at the morning park for rope drop.

1. Agreed.

2. Agreed...three of them, anyway.

3. My favorite phrase, "running" around to get FPs.

4. Legacy FP was never much of a mystery. Certain (well-known) ones ran out pretty early, the rest hung around a good while. Now it's "why isn't A&E/7DMT/Wishes/MSEP not available on my days at 60+10 days out"? If anything, it's more of an enigma with FP+.

5. And fairly pointless.

6. Yeah, maybe.

And:

7. Waits at rides without FP before (HM, PotC) are now noticeably longer.

We didn't like it. Found it more constraining than legacy FP (and we always returned in the window given with that one!). Be prepared for waits on rides where there was traditionally little wait. And you'll still have waits with FP+. We had to queue for 5 minutes to scan the bands at the first point of entry for Space Mountain, Everest and Buzz. Never had to do that with the legacy FP.

Not a fan... Hope you don't feel the same after your trip!

I like it at least as well as the old system. There are advantages and disadvantages to both systems, I guess, but we were still able to do everything we wanted with short standby lines (almost all of our waits were well under 20 minutes, and only one was more than 30 minutes.)

Thankfully our trip is four 50 year olds going for a four night trip the first week of November for F&W. We plan to go to MK, AK and DHS in the mornings and then head to Epcot to eat around the world around lunch every day. We are hoping to get FP+ at the 60 day mark for TSM. I haven't been on the ride since 2008.

You shouldn't have any problems getting FP+ selections for TSMM. As locals, when we go for a day trip it's usually planned less than a week out and I've not had any problems getting us FP+ times for TSMM.
