Fast Pass for morning safari at AK?

Going back to the parks in October. This will be my first trip dealing with the new FP system.

In the past, we'd always headed to the safari after AK rope drop for that recommended early morning safari experience with the animals out munching their browse breakfast in the cooler part of the day.

With the new FP system, should I plan on setting up the early morning safari as one of my choices? If I just head out there at rope drop is it likely to be swamped by other folks with FP? I know the general theory is to use your FP for later in the day when it gets more crowded, but I was wondering if this ride requires a different approach since it is often recommended in the guide books to do this one in the morning.

Or, since this will be during the "off season" anyway, am I just over-thinking this?

Any tips much appreciated,

Andy

1. That's one choice.

2. Unlikely.

3. Up to you. Many WDW guests simply will NOT get up early on vacation.

4. When in doubt, check THIS thread.

I think those are two good options... head there at RD or make a FP reservation. We did it both ways and we got to ride it twice with very little wait. One thing that might sway you towards the FP strategy is that it is a long ride, so, if you do it first thing, by the time you get off you'll have eaten in a good portion of that first quiet hour in the park. I guess it depends which other attractions you want to FP or do early. We did the safaris, Kali river rapids, and primeval whirl at rope drop, and then used our FP+ for a second safari ride, expedition everest, and dinosaur. Then we re-did expedition everest a few times with the single rider line. That strategy gave us all the thrill rides we wanted with little wait :)

We did it both ways last week. We had a 9-10 FP+ reservation the first day. Got there around 9:30 and the SB said 30 minutes but was maybe a 10 minute wait. FP+ didn't really save us much time. Second morning we went to the safari first and rode SB (we saved our FP+ for a different park that night). Got there about 9:15 and it was a walk on.

I think you will be fine riding SB if you go relatively close to rope drop if you would rather save your FP+ for other things.

We went during the first week of June and got there at rope drop. We walked right to the Safari and got right onto it with no wait. We saved our fastpasses for the afternoon to ride Kali River Rapids, Dinosaur and Expedition Everest.
