I'm on a W/R training program, so what I find works for me--oddly--is to take a Motown/60s or other upbeat tunes for the walk portion & alternate it with an alternative, especially ska or punk (straight up, pop punk, surf punk), version of the cover.
Examples
I Get Around--Beach Boys
I Get Around--Pennywise
Surfin Safari--Beach Boys
Surfin Safari--Ramones
Tears of a Clown--Smoky Robinson
Tears of a Clown--The English Beat
Build Me Up Buttercup--The Foundations
Build Me Up Buttercup--The Goops
Come On Eileen--Dexys Midnight Runners
Come on Eileen--No Doubt
And just for fun...
Kung Fu Fighting--Carl Douglas
Kung Fu Fighting--Fatboy Slim
What I like about doing back-to-back covers/remakes is that it helps me pace myself and track my RPE. Plus, I get to know all the words to a song that much more quickly.
Oh, and FWIW, you can do this with Disney songs too. There's a blog,
Covering the Mouse, that's provided me with lots of material, even if I have to dig through the posts to find the type of music I'm looking for.
