I've lost a lot of weight recently, so have bought some new clothes. Usually I wore black slacks and black jacket separates (non-tailored), so actual suits is something new. Today I wore something I was comfortable in when I put it on, but by the end of the day felt very self-conscious.

Here is the outfit -

Is this too unprofessional for work? Too flirty or springy? I'm not used to wearing anything like this, and I think it shocked a lot of people I worked with. Someone I met with made a comment to someone else about looking professional and how appearances count. I don't think she was talking about me (the person was all wrinkled in a linen outfit, so the speaker was kind of busting on her), but it made me self-conscious anyway.

Well, I work in administration in a hospital and this would be a little too "going out" for us. I think it depends on your industry. The colors are very nice and bright. I think a plainer skirt would have been perhaps a little better. But, I bet you looked nice.

I think it depends on where you work - it's a very pretty outfit. In my mind the key is that you were uncomfortable - who needs that, it's just a distraction if you're worrying about your clothes...

BTW, congratulations on your weight loss! :cheer2:

I think it is fine for work - and when I worked FT people often wore stuff like that but I don't know what you do. A conservative law firm, probablly not but I don't think it is anything to worry about.

I work in insurance, which is pretty conservative. Maybe that's why I was uncomfortable -- maybe it was too fancy for work. Most people wear black or blue fitted suits. Or, the more casual people wear slacks and sweater sets.

I've been trying to dress for success - I guess I tried to hard.

It's very pretty. You didn't say what type of work you do, or where you live. Down here in the South...you can get away with a lot.

It also depends on your personality. If you are delightful and being with you is like a breath of fresh air, then your clothes should match. Wear it with confidence, and it will blend in with your presence. People won't notice your clothes so much as you.

And dog gone it...you lost a lot of weight...you deserve to showcase your new self in pretty clothes.

Burn the drab conservative stuff!! Make new fashion rules! Liberate, be Gorgeous!!

I totally agree! ... if she were working in her own or a different office. I would go with the flow. If you felt that people were looking at you, or you felt uncomfortable, I would take that as a hint. I would go with the same type of office attire everyone else is wearing, then let your true personality show through your clothes in places you wouldn't even have to think twice about.

Whatever you decide, just make sure you feel comfortable, that's the most important thing.

Congratulations on the weight loss! That's a beautiful Easter/Spring outfit. :)

I think it's a very nice outfit that is sophisticated yet feminine with a wonderful spring look. I can't see how it wouldn't be appropriate.

I think it is very pretty!!! I bet people were just shocked to see you with some color on. I know I wear blacks and browns a lot, and anytime I put on something bright, I gets tons of comments and second glances. It is just something that people aren't used to seeing.

I work for an arts council and that outfit would be perfectly acceptable in my office. It actually looks like something my 5'10" director might wear. She wears conservative suits when she's fundraising with corporations and bankers, though.

You say you've lost weight recently. Maybe everyone was staring because you looked so good! Either way, I don't see it as inappropriate. It is a pretty, spring-y outfit. If everyone in your office dresses like you used to, in blacks/browns and suits, then maybe that is what shocked them.

Anyway, congrats on the weight loss. :cheer2: I can imagine how difficult that must have been.

I personally love it. But it depends where you work and the work enviroment
