At lunch I took a walk over to the post office. Working in Boston, I always see an interesting mix of people and outfits.

One the way to the post office, I saw these two girls walking towards me. One was wearing a tiny little denim mini-skirt. Given that her thighs were about as big as mine, this was not a good look. I'm afraid that had I been walking behind her, I would have seen the moon.

Then I saw her friend. Her very pregnant friend. She was wearing a pair of cargo capri pants which certainly weren't maternity pants. And then she had on a t-shirt...again, not a maternity shirt. Which meant that all of Boston had a nice view of her very pregnant tummy. Is this really necessary? Why do some pregnant women insist on wearing non-maternity clothes that are 2 sizes too small. She was at least in her 7th month, possibly 8th. That can't be good for the baby if your clothes are too tight.

So on the way back, I see them again. And I realize that her t-shirt says DIVA. And if that is not enough...she's got a cigarette in her hand. So obviously she doesn't care about this baby and the too tight clothes are the least of the problem.

maybe she couldn't afford maternity clothes? or she's proud of her belly?

I've seen 'cute' flashes of pregnant belly...and not so cute.

(I've seen pregnant smokers at WDW too...yes it bothers me...but their choice. My mother smoked when pregnant with me and my brother - we were both healthy weights and turned out fine. but of course - that was the 70's...not the same stigma as now.)

Well, it's not just limited to pregnant women!!! I am always amazed at the very heavy women who wear clothes that are SO tight that you can see every fat roll!!!!!!!!!!

Why does anyone think we all want to see their rolls of fat?????

PS-I am not a skinny-Minnie myself. Consequently, I don't wear skin-tight clothing.

SAY IT WITH ME LADIES...

Just becuase it comes in your size...doesn't mean you should wear it.

:)

I think just because you can sqeeze into something by laying on your back to get it to zip doesn't exactly mean it fits.

OH yeah...I've definitely seen plenty of heavy women wearing clothes that they shouldn't. I'm overweight...but I wear clothes that fit. The friend falls into that category though. Shirt too tight, skirt too tight and way way way too short.

Amen to THAT, stinkerbelle. ::yes::

Working at the mall, I saw all sorts of fashion horrors from the too-tight clothes that exposed fat rolls all over the place, to YOUNG girls (and I mean like elementary aged!) looking like prostitutes, to unsightly pregnant belly-shots, to girls who'd obviously made their teenyweeny denim skirts from a pair of jeans (this was always made even more obvious by the fact that the POCKET would hang down below the hemline of the pants).

While I can't comment on the women you saw today when I was pregnant, 7 to 9 months so, I wore tight fitting tops all the time. I was very proud of my belly and happy to show it off. I was often complimented.

Now there was no way I could get on a pair of non maternity pants so I always wore them but sometimes I wore maternity tops and sometimes I didn't. Maternity clothes are very expensive, I couldn't buy an entire wardrobe to wear for just a few months.

boggles my mind

if I could go everywhere in my sweatpants and super baggy/comfy ARMY tee that I've had since HS...I'd do it. heheh

Saw a very, very pregnant woman at Hampton Beach in NH this past Sunday in a thong bikini. She was sittng in front of me and DW who insisted we move. I did not argue.

Blondy--I have to agree about the price of maternity clothes. Yikes! Luckily, where I live about 30 min away is a maternity/baby resale shop. They sell old maternity clothes (and some of them are GOOD label stuff too! like Gap, etc) for cheap cheap cheap. I remember going shopping there with my MIL (who insisted on buying me stuff) and getting a pair of Gap maternity jeans for like 3 bucks. Got a Liz Lange maternity top for 2.50. I bought a couple of things at the local maternity store, but not much because I couldn't afford it.

I guess I can't comment on the price of maternity clothes as I've never been pregnant so I haven't worn them. Personally, if it was me, I think I'd probably end up buying men's XXL t-shirts and wearing those all the time when pregnant. But I guess I wouldn't be able to get away with that at work.

What not to wear is going to be in Boston this weekend. Maybe you should direct that woman there if you run into her again ;)

I did that too..I only had like two 'maternity' tops total, so when I wasn't at work, I wore DH's shirts a LOT. :goodvibes

I've got a relatively skinny little husband. I'd have to buy my own. :teeth:

So do I, but he likes to wear his shirts HUGE, so it worked out very well. :)

Are they really? I love that show. And I can't tell you how many times I've walked through the streets of Boston and though "I wish I had Stacy and Clinton here to see this!". I'm not claiming that I'm any kind of fashion plate, but my clothes fit and they match.

Over fourth of July weekend, my husband and I were at a baseball game (we have season tickets to our local minor league team) and there was this woman wearing...
a mini skirt so short that my husband was able to tell me what color panties she was wearing...
a t-shirt that had been cut/ripped to the point of barely covering her chest...
and bright red pleather boots with a 2 inch heel.
She was the talk of the game. She was sitting 6 sections away from us and I think everyone in our section saw her at one point or another throughout the game. We were all trying to figure out if she actually owned a mirror.

Do these people get dressed in the morning and think "I look good!!"

I wonder if she's related to the woman we saw out at Scarborough Faire this spring.

Picture this...fields with dirt/gravel paths running throughout set up with tents, stages, various shops, etc.

As my DH and I were pushing our DS in his stroller, talking with our neighbors who'd gone with us, we come upon a woman. And she was dressed in a most bizarre fashion, even for a ren faire.

She was probably about my height or a little taller (I'm five-five) and was wearing stilletto heeled sandals that had at least 2-3 inches worth of heel. They were black leather and had long laces that went up to at least her knee. She was also wearing a very short, very TIGHT shiny black leather skirt and a VERY tightly laced black leather vest (no shirt, so lots of cleavage and underarm fat hanging out, as well as hideous belly bulge), topped off by a head full of washed out, permed to death, platinum blonde hair AND a black leather cowboy hat with feathers sticking off the front of it. I just stared and some women in front of me were like "OMG..how can she possibly be wearing that?". I leaned forward and told them I was betting she had a badly sprained or broken ankle by the end of the day. The shoes looked tres' uncomfortable and it really was NOT a good place to be wearing heels like that. The ground was uneven and rocky/gravelly in places, where it would be very easy to fall down and get hurt.
