Farrah and Bea Arthur

Farrah Fawcett was in an Oscar nominated film. The Apostle, of which Robert Duvall was nominated as best actor for. True, she was never nominated herself but come on, it's not like her movies where horrible or unknown. She was in close to 20 movies.

Actually, he's doing one of the Beatles' famous songs.

Duh...sorry about that. You can tell how close attention I was paying at that moment...I misremembered him as doing "You've Got A Friend", I guess I haven't had enough coffee yet.

One thing I thought was interesting was the featuring of Dom DeLuise. Mr. DeLuise's career was actually mainly in TV & direct-to-video, though he had memorable roles in many movies like "Cannonball Run", Mel Brooks' films (including "Silent Movie", "Blazing Saddles", "History of the World") and "Best Little *****house in Texas".

And actually, I think, besides the dresses and the top categories, one of the reasons the public watches is to see the In Memoriam montage...one last moment for the actors and directors and producers who are now gone but whose work film-goers have come to know and appreciate.

The AMPAS is damned if they do and damned if they don't, but I still think they should have included Miss Fawcett.

agnes!

LOL, but she's not known for her movies. It was her tv show that she is known for the same with Bea Authur. I have no idea why Michael Jackson was shown:confused3

I love those ladies, but they are mainly television actresses. Every person who ever acted in a film can't be mentioned. They had to spread the tribute out to include, writers, directors and those in the technical fields.

As for Michael, "This Is It" was recently released in theatres, not to mention that his song, "Ben" was nominated for an Oscar in 1973.
I wonder if you just hit on the reason that those two were excluded. Perhaps everyone in the montage was at least nominated for an Academy Award.

Oh my, I forgot about that movie...and I really liked it too.

I would rather have a longer (or perhaps two-part) memorial for those in the industry who have died. They could have cut most of the really bad jokes; Alex Baldwin was certainly in the wrong venue; Ben Stiller could have been left out entirely; as much as I like Neil Patrick Harris, they could have cut that and no one would have missed it. If they would have stuck with the traditional five best movie nominations, they would have saved a ton of time. This was certainly not one of their better Academy Awards presentations. I also thought that many of the "stars" present didn't look too thrilled to be there...and come on, were there a lot of turn downs from those who could have been presenters? Milley Cyrus? Puh-lease! Her mom needs to tell her to stand up straight; seemed to be a lot of bad posture especially from the younger, female presenters.

ITA...especially Sean Penn, would it have killed him to straighten his tie? Did he HAVE to make the moment about him instead of the leading actress nominations? I have no opinion of him one way or the other except for the fact if you agree to be a presenter, then do the job to the best of your ability and be respectful. If that is not within your abilities, do not agree to present. It's not like there would be any love lost between him and the Academy.

Did you BOTHER to read the previous posts?????

Did Murphy have that many, I only remember a handful?

I think she means that because MJ isn't known for his movies, he's known for his music and I know alot of movies use his music but there aren't alot of those that he specifically wrote songs for.

I HAVE read the previous posts and I still agree. If the argument for not including Farrah Fawcet is that they had to limit people and she isn't primarily known for movies, then Michael Jackson would/should have also have been excluded, since the same is true of him - he is NOT primarily known for his movies.

Soundtracks makes one eligible, so that's why Michael made the cut. TV shows and sitcoms do not make one eligible. Does anyone know of any feature film Farrah or Bea made, that was not made fr TV? I can't recall, but if there is one, then they should have been included.

That's ridiculous. All three should've been there.

Just because you only know a small sampling of a celebrity's portfolio does not negate why they were mentioned. Some people are aware of all they did.

The previous posts pointed out the reasons all three should've been there, that's why I asked.

In Memoriam

Let's just have our own remembrance.

Some posted a list of movies for Farrah. Not sure about Bea.

But in the music category the nominations are for the songwriters, not for the singers. MJ didn't write "Ben", therefore he wasn't nominated for the song.

I agree that Farrah should have been included. How much time would it have added to flash her picture, anyway?

She had more movie credentials than several that were shown, including MJ. She deserved to be included

Brittany Murphy was shown twice, Farrah and Bea could've been edited in at that time.

At our meeting this morning (and mind you, we work in TV) it was noted that they added just about everyone from the PAs to the Best boy but left out Farrah? :confused3 WhatUPwidTHAT?

Admittedly, I haven't completed the telecast.

I was simply mentioning that they can alter that segment--but to alter the rest of the telecast isn't quite appropriate IMHO.

And truth be told--the movies is just about more than whom we see. Without the people whom we do not see--there would be no movie.

But yes, it seems they do often mention an obscure individual and you're left scratching their head as to why they were included.

Methinks something is up--and for whatever reason, it was easier to drop Farrah than someone else.

I always appreciate the montage b/c sometimes I don't realize someone has died. Farrah was well honored when she passed.

I did not watch the emmy's, but was she mentioned there?

I'd hate to see a simple lovely memorial segment be dropped b/c people get upset and too political about whether or not someone they felt should have been included isn't.

Who is Murphy? What did I miss? :rotfl:
