A husband and wife were arrested this week for hosting a birthday party for their 18 year old son. Dozens of teens, as young as 15 were treated to a keg (or multiple kegs). Just so they could keep tabs on the cops, they monitored a police scanner to be sure that the cops weren't on the way. Many witnesses, including some parents of the underaged party goers came forward and testified. In addition, the police took the party pictures off of the internet as evidence. Just about a year ago, a teenage boy was killed in an automobile accident. Furthermore, this "mother" was involved in a DUI a few months ago as was the "father". Do people seriously think that it is okay to serve alcohol to anyone elses kids? It amazes me.

My favorites are the parents who think they are being responsible by taking the keys away from the kids before they drink

Unbelieveable! :sad2: We had a similar situation here when some parents (who were not only out of town, but out of the COUNTRY!) gave their 17 yr old son permission to have a party. It was a drunken bash for about 60 kids and ended with the parents car being totalled...thankfully, the teen who took the car was uninjured, but he could have easily killed himself or someone else. What are parents thinking??? When we go out of town, if our teen stays with her mom, our house is on instant alarm and no one is allowed in for any reason. All the neighbors have our full permission to call the police if they see anyone at our house when we are gone--including our teen daughter. It might be harsh, but our house will not become the party place.

I believe this family stationed their 17 year old at the door to be sure that there were no drunk drivers leaving the party.

I am stunned enough when I hear my students saying their parents are going away for a week and leaving them alone at age 16 or 17. (please spare me the "but my parents could trust me" stories, that is not the point here). But when I hear about parents who blatantly break the law like this, it makes me furious. I guess they weren't listening at their little darling's "DARE" graduation when the DARE officer said that the parents have to work with the authorities to keep the kids off of drugs and alcohol.

I'm shocked at the behavior, although I shouldn't be. Last year, we lost one of our seniors (high school) not to drunk driving (fortunately) but to alcohol poisoning. And the parents were present at the party. It's sad that no one was responsible enough to say no. The parents (throwing the party) have since been arrested and are awaiting trial, charged with manslaughter and providing alcohol to minors. To bad none of that will bring back the young man who died. It's a shame really. Why do parents think that it's ok to let kids throw a kegger as long as they don't let them drive home? Do they not realize that kids that age typically still give in to peer pressure making them do things they ordinarily wouldn't?

Well, we all know how important it is to be considered the "cool" parents... ALSO, don't forget that our goal, as parents, should be to be our child's best friend. :rolleyes2 :sad2: :sad2:

Those parents are idiots.
A former boss once asked me to take her 17yr. old daughter to buy alcohol for her graduation party :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I have always trusted by teenage sons....about as far as anyone should trust teenage sons. ;) I have found it best to never let them know exactly when you could walk through the door. That policy did me well when I came home to a "house party" in my own home. I herded them all back in the house, but thats a very long thread. ;) Four boys, only one party. Not too bad.

This amazes me! how can people be so dumb? :confused3
