FAQ about the Disney Dining Plan

I don't have time to read all the pages so I hope someone can help me.My family is going in February and would like the dining plan.Do you have to buy the tickets through them?I know that is how it was for the free dining plan but didn't know if it is always that way.I was wanting to buy an AP for me.

To get the Dining Plan you have to buy at least a one day ticket per person in your group. Even if you are staying 10 days, you only have to buy a 1 day pass, and then will get the 10 days Dining.

You'll be @ Disney the same time I will---we are going 2/13-2/21 :)

You can always do what a lot of people here have done and that is to get a one day base ticket and then upgrade it once you are there to an AP and your family can upgrade their tickets to whatever they need.

Noone knows but Disney Management not a CM told me they were going to change it by August this year and it still isn't changed. I don't believe they plan on changing it that they say this to people so they plan on it not being pooled then it's hard to change your plans when they are.

How come they do not offer this for dvc members?
I was told that it is part of a package and that they could not sell it by pieces. That DVC is part of Disney but not the same as the Hotels are part of Disney which makes no sense. I was thinking of buying DVC which is why I asked all the questions.

I'm sorry as I know this has surely been covered somewhere in this thread. Maybe someone can direct me to the page. Can you OOP for your child and then use the TS credit for an adult? I'd like to OOP at 3 TS and use the 3 credits I saved to do a Signature TS for DH, DS and myself.

Yes, you can do that. It sounds like lots of people are doing OOP for the kid's meal and then saving the credit for another meal. Just tell the server ahead of time that you are doing that.

Thanks Bevemjake!

Just when thought I had everything figured out! :rotfl:

Anyone have any recent experience with the pooling of credits? I found some info earlier in the thread mentioning disney was going to change the "pooling" to eliminate using the child credits for adults. Have they done this?

Not as of the last few weeks. We were there through Aug. 27, and others who have returned since are still reporting pooled points.

Hi,
I am going with my family - wife & 3 kids in Jan. We are looking at the dining option.
Can you have proper sitdown breakfasts with it and say pick up a cheap lunch that you pay cash for instead. Is it worth doing like that.

regards,

Mike

Can you use your credits for more than one character meal during your stay? Also, when call to reserve, can you say all of your options on one call, or do you have to call for each restaurant? :earsgirl: princess:

I'm sure this has already been covered but I can't find the answer. With the rest of the family on the dining plan, are children under 3 allowed to order their own meal or do you have to pay that OOP?

Can you only get Character breakfasts which I think are 2 credits or can you just get a standard sitdown breakfast for 1 credit?

Thanks,
Mike

All the character meals that I am aware of are only one credit--breakfast, lunch or dinner. And yes, you can pay OOP for whatever you want.

Yes, and yes! :sunny:

We were there at the end of August ,DD9 and myself for 6 nites and 7 days.Yes we had a Character /Themed meal just about every day...no Character meal on the last days since we were both allowed 6 sit down meals each.We had "way too much food" for the both of us...we shared a few counter service meals ,especially the food courts breakfasts, then we'd have extra left over in our pool of credits for another meal.We ended taking our "snacks" home with us on the last day...we took 4 Mickey Mouse Rice Krispie Treats home to share with dad and brothers. Have fun planning !!! :flower:
