FAQ about the Disney Dining Plan

What is this extra fee? How much? Why?
We have a 7 day MYW which starts with our first hotel. CM told me I would have to be charged 1 day MYW for second hotel to have DDP for all 7 nts, which is extra 2 hundred something. I just do not think that is fair!

I can see what you are saying. Maybe they will come up with a way to carry that over. Have you considered emailing them?
"I would like to see more of your lovely hotels, and would like to find a way to carry over my dining plan and tickets while doing this. Can you help me?"
Best wishes! :wizard:

I did email them.I mentioned about the CM saying to change the reservation to one hotel and how my family and I are looking forward to staying at the two hotels since we had never been to either one before. I told them all I want is to be treated fairly and to be charged only for the dining plan. Why should someone be penalized because they would like to experience more than 1 hotel on their vacation? Thanks for letting me vent I just hope some of that Disney magic finds its way to us.

Sounds good. Pixie Dust to you! :wizard:

Disney has never had a great way to handle split stays. I had the same problem last year with those old length of stay passes. They just do not have things set up to allow a split stay and I think it is pretty much byond their ability to do anything about it (it is the computer system). However you can save those 1 day MYW tickets for your next visit (1 day tickets never expire), so while it is $200 more up front it does give you a nice excuss to go again soon.

If I could get something calrified about the AP's, I would appreciate it. I noticed a lot of references to "packages." When you're talking about the packages, do you mean tickets and rooms or just tickets? If it meant room and tickets, then being a DVC member, we would not be able to use this dining plan, correct?

If you have an Annual Pass you must still purchase at least a ONE-DAY ticket for EVERYONE in your party and you must pay RACK RATE for your room to be eligible for the Dining Package. The good news is that you do not need to use the ticket and it will not expire until it is activated (used in a turnstyle) even without the non-expiration option. We have 3 7-day tickets left from our last trip that we will either be upgrading to a 10-day pass or a DVC AP renewal in December.

The bad news is that the Dining Plan is not currently offered when staying at DVC resorts on points.

The split stay ticket issue also applies if you are at only one room, but for longer than 10 nights. We'll be there for 13 nights, but have to re-check in, even though we'll stay in the same room. We had to buy another set of tickets, but the free dining is worth it for us. :flower:

We are going though when the dining plan is not free. If we were going when the dining plan was free then it would not be as big a deal to have to pay for one MYW ticket.

Quick question for you experts. Can you get salad as an appet. at the ts restraunts that list salads separately from the other appetizers? TIA

For those of you who share meals due to the size of them compared to the small tummies of your kids, do you just buy extra drinks for a couple of kids ? Since you aren't supposed to take food into the park, I wouldn't think they would like it if you pulled a drink out of your backpack for someone.

Thanks !

I can answer goofyshell's question. Yes! My family went to Narcoossee's for example, and salads weren't listed with the regular appetizers yet both my parents had salads as appetizers. Dh did the same in other restaurants too.

Counter service you could buy an extra, use a snack credit, or bring your own. We bring juice packs all the time, just as a treat, and our own bottled water too, and they NEVER say anything.
TS, if you are splitting meals, which we didn't do, as we didn't need extra TS, you can pay out of pocket for a drink. Twice they gave my 2 yo a kid's drink for free, but its not a given. I don't think I would pull out my own drink at a TS.

My husband and I bought the dinning plan for ourselves and were planning on buying food for our daughter who is under three. I read somwhere that kids under three eat for free? Can someone let me know if this is true and how it works? Sorry if this is in the wrong thread.

Thanks

We had drinks in our diaper bag for our dd2, they don't force you to buy a drink but usually we did buy drinks. You could always order water.

Children under 3 eat free at buffets. At a Table Service or Counter Service place you will find you can often feed a child off your plate (servings are large most places) but if you want to order something then you do have to pay for it.

This is what is happening to us...We are staying @ AKL our first night and wanted to eat lunch and dinner there but are going to have to pay for it since we don't get our dining till we move to Pop (or if our niece comes along) POR since that is when our MYWhoppers and dining starts...If I want the dining for the 1st day I need to buy MYW bases for all of us plus dining for that 1 day. Runs into MUCH more then it'll cost us to eat..

When do you want to eat at AKL? If it is the day you get there then you are right, it is cheaper or at least a lot easier to just pay oop. But if you want to eat there the next day, but before you plan to check in at POP you could use the dining plan. You would need to get over to the POP that morning and check in at the front desk. As soon as you do that you can start using your dining credits. You do not need to have a room assinged or to activate the MYW tickets. Just a thought. It is really not so bad to pay oop over there because Boma is not the best value and Jinko is a signature...

Yes we plan on eating there the day we get in. We land @ MCO 10:16 am so we would eat lunch and dinner hopefully @ AKL or close ...but we will have to do really cheap meals until the next morning when we get our dining plan.
Thanks for your help!

Related to this, I was wondering if when using the Dining Plan at TS restaurants, you can take desserts "to go" for children and those of us who cannot eat such a large amount in 1 sitting but may enjoy it later as a snack.
