FAQ about the Disney Dining Plan

New to discussion boards. How do I post a question?

Trying to line up character dinners and was thinking about the Princess Storybook (at Norway Epcot). Problem is the limited info I could find about the menu for this dinner leaves alot to be desired for my wife and kids. Any idea how I can find out what the menu is?
Have you seen this at allears?

I called Disney dining yesterday to confirm our reservations for our trip later this month. I asked for clarification on the "pooling" of meals on the plan because it will make a difference on what meals we pay for. I was told that while the receipt only shows a total of meals left, it is separated by type (adult and child) and that if we used all the adult meals (12) and had child meals left (6) and tried to use one for an adult, it wouldn't go through. . . .

Is this for real? Or is that just the "party line" because Disney realizes that they are charging less for children's meals but their system doesn't track the difference? Does it depend on the restaurant?

We have dinner at one Signature dining and two days with two table service meals, so it is important for us to know the REAL scoop so we can plan when to pay and when to use the plan.

It was NOT the way they are saying as of August, but what it will be in the future will be anybody's guess. We never kept track of Adult/kid on our CS, and our TS we didn't save any, just got everyone a meal every time. Hmmm....

The CM gave you the wrong info. People that have just come back from WDW that were on the plan have stated on these boards that the plan has not changed, that there is no distinction between "adult" and "child" credits, and that they can use their credits any way they wish, as it was designed by Disney. If they do change the plan (which they can do anytime they want), they'll have to change the dining documents themselves because they currently state you can use the credits as you wish.

I just returned from there and got the Disney dining plan for two adults and three children. What we did was if we went to a table service rest. we ordered our two appet. and split them among the kids. The amount of food was enough to fill them up, without having to use 3 additional TS and gave us more credits to use at other rest.

Yes, they gave you the wrong information. I even confirmed with a Disney specialist via email and there is no separation on the card for adult or child meal. It is thrown into one account. Like I said, I used mine as adult meals without any problems and my family of 5 was able to eat at more rests.

Thanks, all! I wondered if that was just the "party line" they give because they know that the system is flawed. I re-read the dining documents, too, and they do seem to indicate a "pooling" of meals. I will give it a try and have a back up plan just in case!

Thanks again!

We are DVC owners and have a large 2 year old. Will we be able to buy him the dining plan?

I read a day or two ago on the DVC Planning Board or the other board that As of Jan.3, 2006, DVC members can book the Dining Plan for travel after April 2006. There's not a lot of info yet, but here's what I've read from someone who called MS and asked:

You must buy it for everyone (3 and older) in your party for the amount of nights you will be there. It is not tied to park tickets (like the non-DVC dinng plan was). It's basically like the non-DVC one, but you don't need to have a package. Our accomodations are already paid for and most DVCers either have APs or Longer extended non expiring passes (we just bought 10 MYW Premium tickets and are only going to go to 2 parks a year..plus we have the 5 extras). We plan on using the New dining plan. I'll have a new "adult" turning 10 three months before we go and my youngest will turn 3 the day we get there. Your 2 yo is free and you'll have so much food that you can share. You can always go to some buffets and share more and there's more of a variety as well. Since he is free and the plan isn't tied to tickets, you don't need to buy a ticket either. That is IF you are using DVC points and not a different type of package or something.

If you go to a table service resteraunt and order a meal, can you after having the non alcholic drink, order a glass of wine or some other acholic drink and pay for it seperatly?

I dont think theres a problem with paying for a glass of wine or something seperately. I did that when i dined at Jiko. The waitress just charged it to my
hotel key.

Yes, you can. We just did that a few times on our trip. My wife and I each had a glass of wine at Le Cellier, and the server still said we could have soda or ice tea when we were done. Same thing happened at Sci Fi Dine in when my wife ordered a Baileys milkshake. Each time we just had a seperate ticket to pay the charges that were outside the Dining Plan.

Last question. On the dining plan list of menus it has the following for both the Wolfgang Puck Cafe and Planet Hollywood

payment of a surcharge is required for certain menu entrees

Does anyone know which one need surcharge and how much?

Just got back -- all credits were pooled. I was able to pay for my parents (not on dining plan) at 5 table service meals (we had 7 nights X 5 people in our family -- we went out 5 nights X 7 people instead).

Child's CS meals are SMALL and disappointing -- usually only 2 choices -- not good for my 9 year old, almost 5 ft son who is allergic to peanuts; however, they had no problem giving us adult meals for either of my younger kids (dd -8; DS -9).

I'll do a full report once we settle back in.

Do dinner/side salads count as appetizers??

TIA!

If the salad is listed in the same list as appetizers, then yes. But at Le Cellier for dinner there was a list of appetizers and a list of salads. The server told us right away that if we liked we could have a salad instead of an appetizer.
I don't know if other restaurants are different.

My wife got salads at many of the meals, but they were considered an appetizer. There were a couple of times she got a regular appetizer instead of the salad. She never got both (although I guess she could have if she paid for it separately.)

at le cellier some of the salads are entrees and some are appetizers. Our server explained which was which.

sorry I can't be more help....we didn't order any salads :teeth:

How do you buy the disney dining plan when Virgin my travel company say you can only buy it from disney, and disney say you can only buy it from a travel agent.

When we called Disney & booked our package, we also requested the Dining Plan. This was not thru a travel agent.
'
Who told you that you have to book the Dining Plan thru a travel agent?
Wrong info.
