FAQ about the Disney Dining Plan

kimmbagley, I believe that you are correct!! This is the problem when individual CM's make up the rules, or fudge on policy. If you only want to use a certain # of credits, than that is your perogative. The only place this seems to be an issue, and rightfully so, is a buffet setting, where everyone must have their own meal; sharing doesn't count at a buffet. If this happens to anyone else, you should call disney dining from the restaurant and get it straightened out. Bottom line, you paid for a certain # of credits, and per the plan, they are yours to use how you see fit. If I wanted to use all 20 TS credits at one sitting, and buy meals for 15 other meal in the restaurant, I CAN DO JUST THAT...I don't think I would, but I could. ;)

If I'm given hard time on sharing meal, or ordering kids meal and paying OOP, I will call the office and get this straightened out. Now My sister had no problem at the restaurants they went to.... in fact CM's seem to be including lots of things under the plan.. not charging them extra...

HI,

It looks like you have some great plans and reservations!! We were there in September on the plan, and had a great time at some of the same restaurants. The kids we were with (2yo and 6 yo included) LOVED chef mickey's and prime time 50's the best.

not sure of your situation, but we were very easily able to catch the public LYNX bus directly from the transportation and ticket center to sea world with only 1 stop. It was sooooo easy, and the bus was very nice too!!!

have fun!!!
Wendy

One question I have which I have not seen here is when you go to the restaurant and it's time to pay using the Dining Plan, do you have to hand over to the CM everyone's Card? (4 of us on the dining plan) or is just one card able to credit your whole party's credits?

Also do they ask you if you are on the dining plan or is this something you need to mention to them when they take your order?

We went in August and I think I told the servers we were using the plan. It just made it easier on all of us knowing what was included in the plan. To answer your first question. No you only have to give one card. All the credits are pooled together.

That's what I thought before we went! Now I'm kind of upset that we were treated that way. I didn't want to make a big deal about it, b/c I didn't want to let it ruin our vacation. We did end up ordering more food than we wanted, and a lot of food was wasted at some meals.

The dining reservation people asked us when we made our ADRs, and our server also asked us at pretty much every meal we went to. It made it easier for ordering, but sometimes I felt like we received poorer service than I remembered on past trips when we paid out of pocket.

I have to agree. This was our first trip to WDW -- but I noticed others that were paying out-of-pocket next to us getting better service than we did. Maybe it was because we went when free dining was available -- but we paid for the dining plan. I think if Disney is going to offer a dining plan, the servers ought to respect that and treat everyone the same, or get another job! :earsboy:

I think it was a coincidence. When on the dining plan, the server is GUARANTEED a 15 or 18% tip on the total bill. They will want you to order everything possible. People not on the plan may not order as much as you. I would think they would want to cater to you? Of course, everyone should be treated the same, but? who knows? I will let you know when I get back!

I THINK I read that this is a new component to the MYW packages for 2006. So if you are booked for 2005, or do not have a package, then you wouldn't get it. Anyone verify this?

If I have problems with OOP or sharing meals, whom do I contact? I have heard that I should contact Disney Dining while still in the restaurant (Is this necessary) but I have also heard that it is best handled by the resort you are staying at (whom exactly...just anyone at the desk)? If DD is the ones to contact, is it the same number we us to make ADRs?

Anyone who has had experience with these contacts :)

Thanks!

I just wanted to pop in and say we just got back from our WDW and DCL vactaion....We used the dinning plan durring our WDW portion of the vacation and ended up saving well over $300. I'm positive if our stay would have been longer than 2 days/3 nights we would have save even more...no doubt about that. Anyways...the dinning plan was well worth the upfront cost...and we'd do it again in a heart beat.

Also...we had NO problem with sharing meals...or even when our dd (child) ordered off the adult menu....Of course that may have been because our group was SOOOO large (12 people...8 adults 4 children).....None of the servers had any issues with our ording process...matter of fact at the end of our meals...they just pooled the total order up then took "x" amount off each card (we had three families so three diffrent dinning plan/kttw cards). Of course this process REALLY made it difficult to really see how much we saved since our bill didn't allway have what "our" family ordered on it...in the end it worked out fine and I was able to get a real close idea of how much we would have paid if we went OOP.

The ONLY issue I can think of right now...was at POP Century....We had one counter service meal left over the morning we were leaving (after we used 4 for breakfast that day)....so I decided to see if I could get just a bottle of water to go and use the last CS credit. I was told "NO"...and that I'd need to get an entree also inorder to get the water. :confused3 Really didn't make any sence to me...but who am I to argue...so I went over to one of the food counters and ordered off the menu...I think I ordered a Chocolate crossant or something along that line...then proceeded to the check out with my water and goodie...Only to be told that my choice was not considered an entree...and I still couldn't use the CS credit. Finally..I asked..."Can you just charge me for the waffle plate and water so I can get going?" After rolling her eyes at me...she went ahead and rung me up for a waffle entree and water, used my CS credit...and I was on my way...with my water minus the waffle and crossant.

I have a package booked without dining. Can I add it on later? Will this cancel out my current package? How late can I wait to add on the Dining? Can I do it at check - in?

Thanks

You can add it without it affecting your current package. AFAIK it has to be paid for when the balance is due, what is that= 45 days before arrival?

If I have a room only reservation, can I just add dining, or do I have to add dining and tickets?

Has to be the package- Magic your way plus dining is its official name.

You can add the dining package after your initial booking. You MUST add the dining component at least 48 hours before checkin, and CANNOT add it at check in. Enjoy.

If your thinking of adding the dinning plan onto your package...you should call either your TA or Disney (whom ever you booked with) and ask them if you qualify...(make sure you have the MYW package)...then get details on cost and how soon you need to add it on. IMO it's well worth it...we saved a TON.
