FAQ about the Disney Dining Plan

I just saw on Expedia that there was a limit on the free Disney Dining Plan package of $50 in food per person/per day. Does anyone know if this is true? Do they tally the day's totals up and charge your room if you're over. Has anyone had a problem with this? I know $50 per person per day is a lot but I had already figured that one could spend around $100 per person per day on the plan with Le Cellier as the table service meal and Morocco for the counter service.

Also, is the limit only on the free plan or does it apply in general?

This is completely untrue. Expedia must be talking about something totally different.

I've got a pretty good handle on the dining specifics, etc. But, my question is, we want to eat a lot of table service meals (who doesn't :earsboy: ) and I'd like to trade 2 counter service for 1 table service. Probably can't be done but I thought I'd ask the "experts" anyway.

Is Aloha worth 8 of my 28 points?

We think it is. We're paying for a couple Table Service kids meals to save up enough credits for the Spirit of Aloha.

Sharing meals is quite simple. Simply tell your server you would like to share. For example, lets say you are at the Kona Cafe in the Poly. You and your friend would like to share a meal. Perhaps you and your friend wish to share a salad, filet mignon, potatoes, asperagus and cheesecake. Let your serever know. Vary likely it will be brought out on two plates, half on one, half on the other. Or, perhaps your server will bring out it all on one plate, with an extra plate for you to divide it up. You will likely have to order an extra drink, unless one of you is happy with just water. You of course will have to pay extra for the extra drink. You have have had your meal, and now you have an extra meal credit that you haven't used. Please make sure that you give a little extra tip, because your server did more for you that she/he would normally do. You can use the extra credit for another meal, or use it for a character meal which requires 2 table service meal credits, or a signature meal.
wow, great explanation pampam, thank you very much !!

concerning the tip...the normal tip is included in the free dining price i paid, i think i read that somewhere, is that right ?
so when i share, i simply pay a little more tip....well i'll pass that part on to my dad since he pays for the vacation and i simply have to get smart and know what to do there ;)

Tip is included in the plan, but it is probably only 10%-15%. As a former server, anything extra is always appreciated! ;)

I think many of the CMs at WDW go "above & beyond" and deserve a little extra! :goodvibes

Tips are 15% - 18%. I think you need to look at your bill to see how much was charged.

You can only trade a table service for a counter :sad2:

I stand corrected. Of course you are right. A character meal = 1 table service . I must have been thinking of something else.

We're AP holders and we just came back from a trip using our DDE which was a great savings for us.

We're booked for a September trip using the free dining plan - can't pass up that great deal - so that being said... there are some days where we won't use the kids' TS credit and just pay out of pocket for their meals and I'm thinking of using the DDE to pay for these out-of-pocket meals.

I'm hoping this all works out, but even if they won't let me use the DDE, the free dining plan is definitely a good buy.

This is a great thread and thanks to all of you who have posted and contributed.

It was always 15-18% on our bills, but we had such good service at every restaurant, we'd go ahead and add $10 on top of each tip! It was totally worth it.

After all the different complaints I'd heard on the board about CMs, I was so pleasantly surprised at how wonderful they all were on our trip :flower:

Just wondering...for those that give an extra tip (we are 20%ers or more, since we own a restaurant!) how do you give the extra tip at Disney? Do you leave cash or charge it to the room? I was really hoping to avoid carrying around cash.

I want to use a TS credit for lunch with Cindy, but if you have to pay a deposit when you call, will I get the deposit back when I use the TS credit? How does that work?

CRT - you should not have to pay a deposit on the dining plan, call them back and let them know you have the dining plan and they will just keep your credit number for the record.

TIP - For the extra tip, we just put cash on the table. It was really the only place we used cash the whole trip. Glad we had a few fives in the wallet.
