We are due to fly with VA in 12 days - hooray - can anyone who has flown with them recenly tell me if they are still ok with the small cabin cases on wheels? We have got one that is about 1/2 cm larger than their specified dimensions, but it is well within the BAA's.

Last time we flew with them we took soft hand luggage and were able to squash it into the bins beside the seats upstairs, but I don't think this case will fit, I can't remember, are there overhead lockers up there as well? Or is there room behind seats 79A and C?

Many thanks

Gill

When we flew with VA. They made sure everyones were within the guidelines. Basically they had a boxes made up so the size of the allowance and people had to put thier hand luggage in thier before they passed for cabin baggage. Also at the gate people were checking they had the tags on before allowing them to board the plane. They seemed to be quite strict. Good luck with it. We are trying to take our small luggage trolleys on BA to NYC as hand luggage, but the handle makes it too big. Fingers crossed we will be able to take ours on.

we have just been to the garage and measured our cases....our biggest (and best) case is 11cm over the total dimensions allowed with VA, do you think we'll get away with it?
this holiday is already costing a small fortune now we need new luggage, i'm so miffed!

It isn't Virgin who impose the limits.

It is the Government and so Virign are require to comply.

I agree though that it is madness. Especially when you go to the states and realise how large the stuff they carry on is.

Not so with the carry allowance. Virgin's dimensions are considerably less than the BAA recommendations.

When we went last yeat our big case was a few inches over the limit and it wasnt a problem, they never said a word. We also took a trolley case on the plane and that was fine as well, they had the measuring thing at checkin but Ive never been asked to use it. I wouldnt worry, I think its the weight that they are more worried about.

I find this irritating especially when you see how much people than buy in duty free and carry on ! Some people have 3 or 4 carrier bags as well as carry on bags.

All the upper deck seats on the A & C side have a small half bin to the side of seat A, probably due to some ducting for electrical wires or the air system and they do not have alot of room. You cannot fit an item in there that is the maximum allowed size if if a soft sided bag so you will find it difficult to store and it will have to go in the rear storage area which the crew have access to. No room behind seats A & C and also the overhead bins are very tiny and I had to half unload my ruck sack to squeeze it up there.

When I flew with Virgin last month the FAs were storing the cases for you at the top of the stairs to the right - only room for soft bags overhead. My case is a smallish Samsonite on wheels but I saw many shapes and sizes and would be amazed if you had problems for such a small amount over - it will be unnoticed I am sure.

We flew with VA in February and as it was a short trip (only 4 nights) we decided to just take hand luggage - in the form of 2 small pull along cases. They were ok size wise but no-one checked them or weighed them. Mind you they couldn't seat DH and myself beside each other so it is aswell they didn't start on how big or heavy the bags were!! :)
