I did a quick search and didn't see this, but I'm not too slick at searching these boards.

I ran across a youtube clip someone posted of the Fantasy pulling out of NYC. What struck me as cool, is that she played the first part of New York New York.

Here's the link

The Magic starts at 1:38. So I suppose they can program it to do just about anything they want to. I wonder if it's something that can be done on a whim, of it takes like a whole day to figure out which notes to play and such?

If you're on here, thank you to youtube user brookwoz for the video.

Love it. I'm guessing it must be computer generated and maybe they can get it to play anything they want. With the technology out there it seems like it should be fairly easy to program, but you never know. Pretty cool, however they did it!

It is neat to know that they can program something else in to their horns. Maybe we'll hear a rendition of jingle bells on our Christmas cruise this year.

We watched her come in from Weekhawken and indeed she played a number of Disney tunes and New York New York!:cool1:

Somehow I am sure there are more to come!

The only horn on Dream & Fantasy is a foghorn. Their musical "horns" are digital and are played through loudspeakers, they are not actual tuned horns like Magic & Wonder have. Theorerically, they should be able to play anything DCL wants them to play.

How are you 100% sure that there are no horns that play the songs do you have pictures of all of them?

The first picture is the horns on the wonder that play "When you wish upon a star" they are at the top of the forward funnel.

The second is the same from the Magic.

I have been on the dream. Her horns are now nothing more than giant speakers. They no longer have individual air horns. They are 100% digital now a days.

EastYorkDisneyFan,
The Dream Class DEFINITELY has a speaker based horn rather than an air horn to play the melodies.
By maritime law they have the regular fog horn.
I never understood why it was on the Aft funnel rather than the Forward funnel on the Magic Class though?

But the tunes on the Dream Class are played by speakers, some of which had to be replaced during their "tuning" as they blew out some of the drivers when they tried to achieve the dB level they needed to make her sound more air horn like!
I know that from Crew Member's that were there when they built the Dream.

onecoolpilot,
The Dream Class ship's will be able to play whatever they want, they just need shoreside to provide them with a MP3 file to upload.
It's not something that they would do aboard.

Ex Techie :)

I think they put them there as they use them as there main horn, on the magic class ships when they sound the horn at noon on a sea day they use the "when you wish upon a star one". I think they keep they have the other one as backup and also use it to "play" with other ships.

I guess it's hard to find a speaker that can reproduce a such a low note and bee loud enough to be heard at sea.

That sounds cool, I wonder if they would what other songs they have thought of trying?

Go back and re-read my post.

I said:

I have been on the Dream. They don't even have the row of horns (as seen in your pictures of the the Magic & Wonder) up for show. The musical "horns" on the Dream are 100% digital and are played on speakers. The only horn on the Dream-class ships is the foghorn, which is required by law. Magic and Wonder won't be able to play anything but the first bar of WYWUAS, unless DCL chooses to add the Dream-class digital "horn" system during a drydock overhaul.
