Fantasy having mechanical issues

I have one question, which is slightly off topic - Is the desk for booking future cruises always so crowded and chaotic? Seemed like every time the desk was open, there were 40 to 50 people waiting to book a future cruise. While I was waiting one evening, there was a passenger who had a meltdown because she missed her text message that advised her that her appointment time was approaching. She yelled and screamed at one the vacation planners and requested his supervisors name. My gosh, she was rude!

I think the reason behind the crazy long lines was multifactorial:

1)many people on this cruise seemed to be platinum or gold so they are frequent cruisers and know that re-booking on board is a great idea PLUS
2)the remaining itineraries are out for 2018 so many people planned on either shopping for a cruise or re-shopping a booked cruise while on board. I've honestly never seen it that crazy and decided to hold off on any OBB/placeholders until my July cruise when I'll have a week to wait in line :)

Back to the topic, hope the Fantasy gets away safely and the cruise this week goes wonderfully for all.

It is strange. I've never had to wait to book a cruise onboard. Everytime I walk by the future cruise desk there's no one there. Most ships only have one person doing bookings. A few years ago there was always two.

Well, it is 11:00pm here in Florida, so time for me to turn in.

Bon Voyage, Fantasy!

In contrast, I've never NOT had to wait to book a cruise onboard. At best, there's been just two people in front of me. But I think the longest wait had 8 people in front of me, never 40 to 50 like the PP saw. I think the release of the new itineraries this week certainly had something to do with the lines.

Just got home after driving up interstate 95 to South Carolina. Somehow I missed the announcement about lunch at Cabanas and other food items. I certainty would not have missed more food! This was my first cruise. I thought Disney handled the situation the best they could have. As others have stated, they added lots of entertainment, movies, and had characters everywhere on board. I personally was glad that I had extra time on the ship.

I don't consider the price I paid for a 3 day Disney cruise cheap! I could had added a few more hundred dollars and booked a 7 day cruise on another cruise line.

We're on disboards so a few extra hours on a Disney ship >>>> an extra 4 days on any other ship :)

But I selfishly am hoping for a similar issue when it comes for debarkation in August

I hope everyone gets some good compensation or a nice discount on a future cruise. This wasn't and "act of God" it was Disney's fault. Airlines compensate for mechanical problems. I would hope DCl would do the same.

Few comments,

Have found DCL to do the best they can to keep everyone happy, the downside is they are very closed mouth about anything that happens. I get they want everyone to be happy and have a great time, but the spin can cause distrust, especially with those onboard.

For us DCL debarkations have varied by port, PC and Miami best, LA a pain, and we also noticed the classics seemed less chaotic, especially for the early walk offs. Our one experience with RCCL was very easy, although we did have a later time, due to a very late flight out.

Yes on the boards, I get the is a DCL forum, but mechanical issue on brand X = poor maintanence don't cruise that line ever, mechanical issues on DCL = things happen on a cruise ship and DCL is handling it great. Stuff happens on all cruise ships, not just certain lines;)

Really hope they get her going tonight and it wasn't a huge issue and the folks on board have a great cruise.

How you know it's Disney's "fault"? Mechanical issues happen all the time. Randomly. A perfectly good car can break down on the freeway going to work.
So do airplanes and they compensate people. Yes and if that car is under warranty it's taken care of. Whose fault do you think it is?

Which people? The ones that got off earlier today, or the ones on board now? I think someone said earlier that the people getting off today got a 20% discount on a future cruise.

That's good. I know when the had to change the itinerary on one of the New york cruises due to hurricane Mathew they compensated everyone and gave them a discount on a future cruise. They didn't need to do that it was just good customer service. I would think they would do the same on the second cruise since mechanical problems are completely on them.

We (the people who got off today) didn't get any compensation, nor should we (in my opinion). Stuff happens and DCL did everything right (in my first timer's eyes).

My flight change fees ended up being $600 (+miles) and I am hoping the insurance I bought through Disney will cover that. Though I did not book the airfare through Disney. Someone else said Delta knew about the mechanical problems and wasn't charging, but they did for us and we told them about the ship mechanical problems and switched flights at 1am. Still charged us a ton to change flights. Off to read the insurance details...
