Fantasy fans: April 7, 2012

Christopher, so sorry to hear your news. A tough week indeed.

We start the packing at the weekend...I say we, I mean me:rotfl2:. I have the rest of this week at work and then right unto Thursday at 3.30pm:banana:, but in-between now and then I am busy busy.
Weekend, my DS has a Beavers swim gala and fun session , I need to do last bits of shopping...magnet paper, sandals for DD, sunscreen. I work as a teachers assistant in a primary so I finish work at 3.30 everyday but m day doesn't end there. Monday My DD has a friend home for tea, Tuesday we have our 6month check up the dentist and then DS has beavers, Wednesday I have an afterwork meeting that may lead to further training for my work and both children have school discos, one after the other! Thursday (last working day) is a sad day as we say farewell to a collegue who is retiring and then in the evening DD has guides! I also have to complete the packing, do the housework finish the FE and magnets, get the dogs to the kennels and breathe :lmao:

I shall need the 9hr flight over just to catch up with myself:rotfl2:

Wow and I thought I had a lot to do before we leave! I am thinking that you may find the 9 hour flight something your begin to look forward to since you'll have no choice but to sit back and relax :)

We too are sorry Christopher to hear about the losses you have experienced this week. It is heartbreaking.

We are trying to be calm about this but it is getting to us!!! School keeps me busy but I am rather preoccupied there too. Taking the Jr High to see the Hunger Games tomorrow and maybe that will be a distraction from Disney!!!

It would be hard for us too, our Daughter's are finding out the next day also!! Can't wait to get rid of this secret...LOL We have never been to KSC before so excited to see what it has to offer. We fly out in 13 days so I cant wait!

Curious as to whether you're staying near KSC. or the port Friday night? We have reservations in both places and I need to decide which one to keep. Afraid if we stay at our normal pre cruise hotel DD will figure it out. How are you handling that? I need a good idea!

Also just wondered how many teachers we have here? Things I've picked up in conversation makes me think we've got a few! It would be fun to share what we teach...I'll start! I am a math teacher at a community college and I tutor a bit as well...

Early Childhood and Primary Music (Ages 4 to 11) at an International School

Just finished our Day of Student Led Conferences where the children share what they have been learning wit by talking to their parents about it and showing them the work they have produced. The studetns are permitted to present in English or their Mother Language. A really successful day.

That's a great idea to have student-led conferences! Then the children can be proud to share their own accomplishments and you can be right there cheering them on!

So you teach music? Any particular instrument(s)?

I am not a teacher but a teaching assistant, working with KS1 children in primary school(ages 5-6). I support two class teachers to deliver general education to them.

Christopher My daughter plays the flute , she loves performing, and passed her grade 2 back in December, she has been playing just over a year now.

I teach 6-8 English and Reading, 6-7 Religion. Teaching in a Chicago Catholic School, soon to early retire!!!!! A real challenge these last few months.

Sounds like we could start our own "Suite Life On Deck"! Wouldn't that be an awesome teaching job on a cruise ship...especially a Disney cruise ship!!!

Melody, congratulations on the early retirement! That is very exciting!

That's such a great age to work with! They are so excited about learning :)

My Father has a vacation home in Deerfield Beach that the girls think we are going to. We are flying there on April 3rd and spending a few days there. My oldest wants to see the Fantasy so bad that she asked if we can drive three hours to Port Canaveral to see it when it docks on April 7th. It almost cant be any easier :rotfl2: She is going to totally freak out when she finds out we can not only see it but will be sailing on it. We booked the Residence Inn at Cape Canaveral for now. It's a little pricey at $169 but i'm always worried about staying in a clean place. You have any other thoughts on places? This is our first DCL cruise and usually leave out of Miami so we don't know the area.

Just catching up here...I don't know where the time has gone!

My daughter is also a teacher, High School Math. :scared1:
I'll have to let her know that there's a teacher's conference on this cruise. :)

We haven't done much planning but finally did hire a van and driver for Cozumel.

Safe travels to all those getting a headstart.

Wow, you are lucky the way your surprise will unfold so nicely :) I'm afraid if we go to Port Canaveral and stay at the hotel we always stay at pre-cruise that DD will figure it out. The Residence Inn is very nice from what I hear and very close to the port. I also think you can see the water from there and may be able to see the ship as well, but I'm not positive on that. I think you made a great choice in hotel!

That's neat about your daughter! Is she coming on the cruise as well? I think spring break and summer often have lots of teachers on board! We made some wonderful friends on a DCL cruise a couple years ago...the husband is a math teacher like me and the wife is in a similar type of work as my DH! So it made it a great match! The other neat thing is that they have two girls right around my DD's age and they only live about 45 minutes from us, so we still get together at least a few times a year. We are hoping to cruise again together next year...unfortunately our girls don't have the same spring break this time around...

Good luck with your surprise! That works out perfectly! I hope you get her reaction on video...it will be priceless!!!

We are staying at the Residence Inn as well. We wanted a Marriott property to get the points and we wanted to be able to leave our car there for the week. They also include breakfast. Our cost is over $200, (with tax and add'l $20 adult fee ?) but we feel it is worth it with the "Park and ride" feature. We stayed at the Radisson at the Port in 2009, and we liked it. We left our car for the week and breakfast was included as well. With six of us, it is convenient to just eat there and then go to the terminal. My DH drops us off with the luggage (and kids) at the terminal and he drives back to the hotel, parks the car and then takes the shuttle back to the terminal. It works for us. Less chaos!!

Less than two weeks til we leave home!!!

Chief71- Wow! That is a great solution to a surprise ending! Sounds perfect. Enjoy the faces as everyone boards. Smiles galore I bet.
Christopher and ElfinJo, see by your tickers you will be almost ready to leave. How exciting. I may count down for you as I wait!!!! Please enjoy your time at WDW and then the cruise. I envy every part of your trip except the flight!!!! Not a very good flier. I am already having dreams about going thru security. Christopher, thank you again for all the many things you have done for this little group of happy travellers. It has been such a pleasure.

Hi all,

Just checking in. We had our school break last week (March Break) and we took the kids to NYC. Saw the new Disney musical Newsies (fantastic singing and dancing) and admired the new Times Square Disney Store designed by Steve Jobs.

Just a reminder about the "DCL Fantasy Fans" Facebook group I created, just search and request to join the closed group. It's not meant to replace this thread. It's just a more secure area to share family photos and plans. I've posted my family photo so that you'd recognize us.

I'm looking forward to the magnet exchange and doing the criss-crossing of decks to deliver these. Last year on the Disney Dream, it really made you appreciate how huge the ship is.

Hi everyone, still here, just crazy busy!

I will add to the group of teachers- I am a Montessori teacher at a small private school with 21 three to six year olds (preschool and kindergarten), 15 of which are boys this year! I have only ever taught Montessori but I have taught all the way up through 6th grade and have loved every day of it all!

Between my two kids activities, work and travel, we have barely started the whole packing adventure. My daughter does All Star cheer and her last comp is next weekend. Plus, we went to Disney World last weekend for a long St. Patrick's day weekend, traveling for other comps and a quick trip down for the Princess 1/2 marathon= a busy past two months! Needless to say, we just keep circulating the clothes through the suitcases.

We are very laid back travelers so most of our packing is quick- all the princess dresses and costumes you can fit, swim suits, and I suppose I will have to grab a few things for me too.

I can't figure out how to post a pic of our closet on last year's Disney Dream Easter cruise so I will try and post it on the Facebook page.

It's been awhile since I visited this board. Just checking in! Can hardly believe we will be in the Fantasy in 2 weeks! :cool1:
