FANTASY ARRIVAL THIS AM..

The helicopter *does* land very close to the ship. We had an evacuation February of last year after a gentleman drowned (yes, he later passed) while snorkeling. This was the day after the Magic had a drowning at CC. The helicopter came in from Nassau direction and when it took off it headed toward Miami since they have a better equipped trauma center.

As to the parking, Port Canaveral, at least on the side that has Disney, etc. is not very well equipped to handle traffic at all. Just getting out of there when there *isn't* another shipload of people trying to get to the port is oftentimes a mess. Getting in is a traffic jam as well, once you get into the gates for dropoff and have to wait for a spot to unload. It just all seems so poorly engineered. I can only imagine what it was like Saturday morning after such a late disembarkation.

As a CM. CMs know nothing. We hear it from the guests. And any CM that would know something wouldn't actually be able to tell you anything because of confidentially...
I totally understand that. I was just referring to the various speculation as to the actual nature of the medical evacuation. I don't doubt the evacuation occurred, as there are pictures showing it, but no one who actually knows what the situation was (medical personnel) would be talking about it.

I said that when the Dream class came out and DCL expanded the terminal. They spent I think it was 20 some odd million on areas that the average guest will never see. The guest area, 0
I went so far as to call it an accident waiting to happen. What they should have done, was to have the first area as a drop off only area. Then on the other side of the entrance, a pick up to keep everyone separate.

That's what I was getting at. It obviously happened. I'm just saying with pretty much any medical emergency onboard, or Any other gossip, don't rely on what a crew member tells you haha. A CM might tell you something but they heard it from someone who heard it from someone, and then thats how you get three different stories.

Sort like "I heard it from our WDW bus driver......"

I'm the one reporting the snorkeling incident on another board. I know the family. They have a child that was with them on the ship, but the child was not involved. The mother was evac'd. Without going into personal details, she is still in icu but is improving. If you are praying for this family, please continue to do so.

I was on board. A child was air lifted by the US Coast Guard due to drowning incident on Castaway. My balcony faced the landing area. Unsure if the child survived, but it was hairy according to a staff member I spoke to. The wind was pretty rough (excursions were canceled, such as no Parasailing) but snorkeling and swimming was allowed and the waves weren't terrible since the area is protected.

All aboard was 4:45, but we didn't pull out of Castaway until 8:15 PM.

The 6:45 AM breakfast folks were told to go with luggage to common areas after eating to wait for the boat to park. When we finally parked, Natalie the cruise director kept announcing to stay comfortable in common areas as the luggage and customs area was over packed. They played Disney cartoons in the theaters to keep people at bay as long as possible. I sat near the pool and watched the cast practice a Star Wars fight for the Star Wars theme days. It was actually BORING to watch as the director stopped them every two seconds, lol.

Finally I got off the boat at 10. The rental car shuttle took 90 minutes to get to me. Tried to take a taxi, instead. Taxis were all locked in in the traffic of the folks coming in. No taxi could get in, no Uber, no rental shuttle buses. It was a MESS. They are not equipped to have a ship coming in late with 6 ships in port with the next loads of people arriving. Then the Budget had a line out the door for the car pick up. Literally didn't get a car until 1:45 PM, and I had reserved it for 9 AM pick up! Wow. Killed the day we hoped to be a water park day. But, they had to take care of the child and I get that.

Hopefully whomever was involved in the emergency will be alright.

What I find interesting is that it's a U.S. Coast Guard helo. I wonder where it flew in from? I wasn't aware we have Coast Guard assets over in the Bahamas.

Most likely Key West, Miami or Ft. Lauderdale as they are closest to South Abaco.

When we had the drowning evac in Feb. 2015 we were specifically told that the helicopter was coming from Nassau, and it definitely came from that direction. OPBAT is run from Nassau (they also have a hangar on Great Inagua), so there would be a USCG helicopter there for that purpose. It's deployed from Clearwater to serve in the region, primarily for drug interdiction.
